Alcatel-Lucent provides Internet protocol (IP) and cloud networking, and ultra-broadband fixed and wireless access to service providers and their customers, enterprises, and institutions worldwide. The company operates in three segments: Core Networking, Access, and Other. The Core Networking segment offers intelligent IP service routers, switches, and software defined networking platforms to support IP-based applications and services; and terrestrial optical products, which enable carriers to manage voice, data, and video traffic patterns based on various applications or platforms. This segment also develops, manufactures, installs, and maintains undersea telecommunications cable networks; and provides microwave radio products, as well as offers network build and implementation IP, platforms, and platforms professional services. The Access segment offers wireless products and services that enable mobile network operators to offer mobile data capacity; cable, antenna, tower systems, and their related electronic components; and fixed access products, which enable service providers to offer ultra-broadband connectivity over digital subscriber lines and fiber connections. It also provides fixed network build and implementation, multivendor maintenance, and licensing services; and managed services, including build-operate-manage-transfer and operations transformation solutions, and network operations services. The Other segment offers communications and network solutions for businesses of various sizes to deliver collaborative conversations; and networking, satellite communications, voice-over-IP, optical routers, and other solutions for the United States national security, defense, and advanced research communities. Accenture and Alcatel-Lucent Form Strategic Alliance to Help Clients Monetize Ultra-Broadband Opportunities

Accenture and Alcatel-Lucent have formed a strategic alliance to help communications service providers (CSPs) and large enterprises implement integrated ultra-broadband solutions to address the challenges of rising costs and increased data consumption caused by high demand from digital customers and applications. The agreement calls for the two companies to form the Accenture Alcatel-Lucent Business Group. Its initial offerings will include solutions where the companies team to design, build and run scalable, cost effective customer care operations for all-IP networks that will enhance mobile broadband accessibility and improve digital customers' experiences. The companies will dedicate sales and delivery resources to jointly provide solutions and services for customer care for mobile devices based on Alcatel-Lucent's Motive line of products and explore small cell wireless network solutions with a focus on integrating cellular technology and Wi-Fi between service providers and large enterprises. The new group will be able to deliver unique value to clients by combining Alcatel-Lucent's leading IP networking software platforms and products with Accenture's systems integration and transformation capabilities. The Accenture Alcatel-Lucent Business Group will develop sales and delivery capabilities focused on Alcatel-Lucent technology, and Accenture will be Alcatel-Lucent's preferred supplier for software and network integration services. Alcatel-Lucent will also be a preferred technology provider for Accenture's customer care and small cell solutions needs.

JCDecaux SA and Alcatel-Lucent Join Forces to Speed Up the Roll-Out of Connected Street Furniture

JCDecaux SA and Alcatel-Lucent announce that they are joining forces in the development of connected street furniture. While the JCDecaux and Alcatel-Lucent teams have for years worked independently on connectivity, Alcatel-Lucent's tests have demonstrated the relevance of combining its small cells with the street furniture developed by JCDecaux to improve connectivity in the city. The unique density and coverage of street furniture in city centres makes them an ideal medium to usher in the development of "smart city" policies and the creation of an ecosystem capable of further improving the quality of service provided to users and citizens. Easy to install and to get quickly up and running, small cells help increase mobile networks' density of coverage, boosting capacity in saturated areas and offering high-speed access for all. The teams are now working together to optimise the aesthetic integration of small cells in street furniture in order to provide cities and telecom operators with a global solution that is in tune with the urban environment.

Alcatel-Lucent to Double Capacity of Data Transport Networks by Being First to Deliver Single-Carrier 200G DWDM Optical Line Card

Alcatel-Lucent announced that it is the first vendor to deliver a single-carrier 100 gigabit-per-second (100G)/200G DWDM optical line card giving service providers the ability to more than double the bandwidth capacity of their networks. The card will plug in to Alcatel-Lucent's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform to offer service providers a flexible network evolution path and meet ever-growing demands for high-bandwidth services such as streaming HD video and cloud computing. Following a pre-selection process, the 100G/200G single carrier line card has already been deployed into 20 service providers networks. A Bell Labs study released in December 2013 revealed that demand for real-time video content streamed from the cloud to mobile smart devices will increase by 720% between 2012 and 2017. Traffic generated from datacenter connectivity will also increase by 440% in the same period. Using the 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), Alcatel-Lucent's 100G/200G- line card family allows service providers to support a mix of traffic while taking advantage of a scalable, agile, flexible and cost-effective solution. The ability to operate in either 100G or 200G mode means they can meet today's bandwidth demands and seamlessly grow capacity when needed without additional investment. Technical Details include: Alcatel-Lucent's 100G/200G single-carrier optical transport line card family allows operators to transmit data over distances as great as 4,000 km in 100G mode and as far as 1,000 km in 200G mode; The 200G solution initially allows for the doubling of fiber capacity from 8.8 Tbps (88 x 100G) to 17.6 Tbps (88 x 200G). Alcatel-Lucent's flexible grid feature delivers a total system capacity of 24 Tbps. The solution is backward compatible with previous generations of Alcatel-Lucent's 100G DWDM solution; It uses the 200G-ready 1830 PSS and the 400G Photonic Service Engine (400G PSE), thereby laying the foundations for a smooth evolution to 400G capacity and speeds in the future.
