Alcatel-Lucent provides Internet protocol (IP) and cloud networking, and ultra-broadband fixed and wireless access to service providers and their customers, enterprises, and institutions worldwide. The company operates in three segments: Core Networking, Access, and Other. The Core Networking segment offers intelligent IP service routers, switches, and software defined networking platforms to support IP-based applications and services; and terrestrial optical products, which enable carriers to manage voice, data, and video traffic patterns based on various applications or platforms. This segment also develops, manufactures, installs, and maintains undersea telecommunications cable networks; and provides microwave radio products, as well as offers network build and implementation IP, platforms, and platforms professional services. The Access segment offers wireless products and services that enable mobile network operators to offer mobile data capacity; cable, antenna, tower systems, and their related electronic components; and fixed access products, which enable service providers to offer ultra-broadband connectivity over digital subscriber lines and fiber connections. It also provides fixed network build and implementation, multivendor maintenance, and licensing services; and managed services, including build-operate-manage-transfer and operations transformation solutions, and network operations services. The Other segment offers communications and network solutions for businesses of various sizes to deliver collaborative conversations; and networking, satellite communications, voice-over-IP, optical routers, and other solutions for the United States national security, defense, and advanced research communities. The company serves transportation, energy, and public sector customers. Alcatel-Lucent was founded in 1898 and is headquartered in Paris, France.

Avea Deploys Alcatel-Lucent's Motive ServiceView Solution

Avea announced that it has deployed the Motive ServiceView solution from Alcatel-Lucent. Deployment of Alcatel-Lucent's Motive ServiceView technology will enable Avea to identify and configure subscribers' devices settings in the network before they are detected by customers, quickly resolving devices issues that would otherwise require a call to a service representative. With this solution, Avea achieved a Mobile Device Management System to provide better customer experience and more service usage, faster interaction & resolution for customer care calls & tickets, enhanced device capabilities reporting system, better device recognition and configuration capabilities and finally the ability for bulk and automated actions & upgrades for their subscribers. ServiceView not only help Avea to manage the growing complexity of mobile, exceed customer expectations and differentiate their brand but also find more effective ways to provide simpler, more effective customer care. The Motive ServiceView solution includes: Mobile Device Manager (MDM); Service Management Platform (SMP) and Customer Service Console (CSC); and Mobile Device Support Template.

Alcatel-Lucent to Introduce New Features to its Velocix Content Delivery Network Solution to Enable Pay-TV Providers to Cope with the Explosion of IP Video Traffic

Alcatel-Lucent announced that it will introduce new features to its Velocix Content Delivery Network solution to enable pay-TV operators to better manage their networks and set a new standard for the customer experience of IP video services. As operators cope with the ever-increasing amount of IP-based video traffic, the Velocix CDN offers a number of improvements which take advantage of innovations in virtualization, as well as tighter integration with IP infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of cloud networking for IP video services. The Velocix Virtual CDN decouples the software that controls and routes traffic on a network from the physical infrastructure that provides compute and storage resources. This greatly reduces the time needed to install or expand the CDN. Virtualization also gives operators the agility to instantly create a new CDN cache in case of a hardware failure, minimizing any potential disruption in quality of service. The Velocix Virtual CDN joins the Alcatel-Lucent network functions virtualization portfolio announced earlier this year to enable network automation and efficient use of resources for rapid scaling up and down of services. Additional features to the Velocix platform are also being announced, and include: Coupled with a brand new user interface and even more flexible reports, the world-class reporting capability of the Velocix CDN has been extended to give operators greater visibility of the traffic flowing through the network without increasing any additional latency or load. Patented Bell Labs techniques are used to measure the quality of video streamed to customers without the need for network probes or for installing software on customers' devices. Integration with the network routing control plane enables the CDN to learn automatically from changes in the IP infrastructure and optimize the cache selection accordingly. The Velocix Universal Network Application Programming Interface also enables unprecedented integration with external systems to develop customized applications for network configuration, content management and reporting. Velocix proxy language provides a powerful way to dynamically control how content is cached and processed.

Alcatel-Lucent Introduces New Enterprise Small Cell Device Which Allows Operators to Extend Superior 3G, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi Connectivity

Alcatel-Lucent announced that it will introduce its breakthrough new Enterprise Small Cell device at the beginning of 2015. In collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies Inc. (QTI), Alcatel-Lucent is developing a small cell solution that will allow operators to extend superior 3G, 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity and coverage into the office for in-building customers. The rapid development of the solution has led the company to extend its plans to include LTE and multi-standard residential cells. Providing seamless connectivity and high performance to wireless subscribers inside of buildings is a growing challenge, exacerbated by the continued adoption of smart mobile devices which are expected to provide seamless experiences for corporate and personal applications. The new 9962 Multi-Standard Enterprise Cell, developed in a collaboration between Alcatel-Lucent and Qualcomm Technologies, allows operators to meet their existing business customer needs to deliver in-building wireless services to support continued growth in data traffic and VoLTE service. This is the first small cell of its type to support both 3G and 4G LTE connectivity through a single chipset with key features like carrier aggregation. The Qualcomm chipset on which the 9962 is based--the FSM9955--also provides the ability to migrate the radio access technologies from 3G to 4G. Alcatel-Lucent chose the FSM9955 chipset because it is designed to enable low-power, plug-and-play, small form factor small cells that are software configurable to support a mix of 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi technologies. The new small cell is in customer labs and will be generally available in early 2015. In addition to the in-building challenge, wireless operators continue to face the challenge of providing cellular coverage and capacity in the home. 3G femto solutions have long been used to improve in-home coverage. As VoLTE becomes more prevalent in wireless networks, with uninterrupted coverage expected in the home, it requires an LTE femto solution for the home be made available to provide a ubiquitous user experience. Alcatel-Lucent expects multi-standard and LTE-only solutions for the home to be generally available in 2015, and is utilizing accelerated development methods by leveraging its efforts currently underway for the 9962 Multi-Standard Enterprise cell.
