Alcatel-Lucent provides Internet protocol (IP) and cloud networking, and ultra-broadband fixed and wireless access to service providers and their customers, enterprises, and institutions worldwide. The company operates in three segments: Core Networking, Access, and Other. The Core Networking segment offers intelligent IP service routers, switches, and software defined networking platforms to support IP-based applications and services; and terrestrial optical products, which enable carriers to manage voice, data, and video traffic patterns based on various applications or platforms. This segment also develops, manufactures, installs, and maintains undersea telecommunications cable networks; and provides microwave radio products, as well as offers network build and implementation IP, platforms, and platforms professional services. The Access segment offers wireless products and services that enable mobile network operators to offer mobile data capacity; cable, antenna, tower systems, and their related electronic components; and fixed access products, which enable service providers to offer ultra-broadband connectivity over digital subscriber lines and fiber connections. It also provides fixed network build and implementation, multivendor maintenance, and licensing services; and managed services, including build-operate-manage-transfer and operations transformation solutions, and network operations services. The Other segment offers communications and network solutions for businesses of various sizes to deliver collaborative conversations; and networking, satellite communications, voice-over-IP, optical routers, and other solutions for the United States national security, defense, and advanced research communities. The company serves transportation, energy, and public sector customers. Alcatel-Lucent was founded in 1898 and is headquartered in Paris, France.

Alcatel-Lucent Reports Earnings Results for the Second Quarter of 2014

Alcatel-Lucent reported earnings results for the second quarter of 2014. For the quarter, the company reported a net loss of EUR 298 million ($400 million), compared with a net loss of EUR 885 million a year earlier, when it write down the value of its assets. The company announced that operating profit rose three-fold to EUR 136 million, although sales fell by 4.6% to EUR 3.2 billion. Adjusted operating income was EUR 136 million, up sharply compared to EUR 45 million in second quarter last year. Net loss narrowed in the second quarter due to lower accounting charges, while revenue stagnated and restructuring charges mounted.

Alcatel-Lucent Plans An Initial Public Offering For Its Submarine-Cables Unit

Alcatel-Lucent (ENXTPA:ALU) plans an initial public offering for its submarine-cables unit as part of Chief Executive Officer Michel Combes’s turnaround effort. Alcatel-Lucent plans to sell a stake in the cable unit to strengthen the business and fund its expansion. Alcatel-Lucent said it will retain a majority stake in the submarine-networks business. The IPO, which will make up a “small part” of disposals Alcatel has planned, is targeted to take place in the first half of 2015, Combes said.

Turk Telecom Selects Alcatel-Lucent for Network Upgrade

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that Turk Telecom has deployed Alcatel-Lucent's 7950 Extensible Routing Platform to meet expanded capacity demands of data and video use from its subscribers.
