The company's Group Disability and Life segment provides group long-term and short-term disability insurance, group life insurance, and accident and specialty insurance. Its Global Supplemental Benefits segment offers supplemental health, life, and accident insurance products, as well as offers individual Medicare supplement plans that provide retirees with federally standardized Medigap-style plans. The company's Run-off Reinsurance segment manages its run-off reinsurance coverage for risks written by other insurance companies under life and annuity policies and accident policies under guaranteed minimum death benefits and minimum income benefits contracts. Its Other Operations segment provides corporate owned life insurance that are permanent insurance contracts sold to corporations to offer life coverage for certain employees, as well engages in run-off settlement annuity business. The company distributes its products and services through insurance brokers and insurance consultants or directly to employers, unions, and other groups, as well as through the Internet. The company was founded in 1792 and is headquartered in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

Cigna Corp. announced that Thomas A. McCarthy, currently Vice President of Finance, will succeed Ralph J. Nicoletti, who has elected to leave the company for personal reasons, as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. On July 12, 2013, McCarthy will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer and have executive leadership responsibility for all of Cigna's financial operations and functions, as well as for Cigna's investment management and strategic planning units. McCarthy and Nicoletti will work together to ensure a seamless transition.
Cigna Corp. announced its individual and family plans are now offering its Cash Advantage Critical Illness product, which will be marketed and administered through Cigna Supplemental Benefits division in Austin, Texas. The product will be offered through brokers in Colorado, Texas and Tennessee.
Cigna Corporation named Lisa Bacus to the newly created position of global chief marketing officer, with responsibility for all global marketing activities. In the new role, Bacus will report directly to President and Chief Executive Officer David M. Cordani and will be a member of the Cigna Enterprise Leadership Team. Bacus is a seasoned marketing leader with more than 25 years experience energizing company brands and leading customer-centric initiatives. At Cigna she will be charged with integrating the company's marketing organizations into a single global marketing team and working to strengthen the worldwide brand. Most recently, Bacus served as executive vice president and chief marketing officer at American Family Insurance.
