CMS Energy Corporation, through its subsidiaries, operates as an energy company primarily in Michigan, the United States. The company operates in three segments: Electric Utility, Gas Utility, and Enterprises. The Electric Utility segment generates, purchases, distributes, and sells electricity to residential, commercial, and diversified industrial customers in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. It operates a network of coal, gas, hydroelectric, oil, and wind generation plants. This segment’s distribution system includes 421 miles of high-voltage distribution radial lines; 4,259 miles of high-voltage distribution overhead lines; 17 miles of high-voltage distribution underground lines; 55,965 miles of electric distribution overhead lines; 10,162 miles of underground distribution lines; and substations with an aggregate transformer capacity of 24 million thousand volt-amperes. The Gas Utility segment is involved in the purchase, transmission, storage, distribution, and sale of natural gas. This segment’s gas distribution and transmission consists of 26,720 miles of distribution mains; 1,657 miles of transmission lines; 7 compressor stations with a total of 151,172 installed and available horsepower; and 15 gas storage fields with an aggregate storage capacity of 309 billion cubic feet of gas and a working storage capacity of 143 billion cubic feet of gas. The Enterprises segment is engaged in the independent power production and marketing activities. As of December 31, 2012, it had ownership interests in independent power plants fueled by natural gas, coal, and biomass totaling 1,135 gross megawatts. CMS Energy Corporation was founded in 1987 and is based in Jackson, Michigan.

CMS Energy Announces Executive Changes

CMS Energy announced that Annette Gardiner will start as vice president of shared services, effective Jan. 12, 2015. Gardiner, the current president of New Mexico Gas Company, will be leaving that post effective the end of 2014. Gardiner will be responsible for supply chain, learning and development, corporate safety and business services, including fleet, facilities, emergency management, security, real estate and general services. She will report to Butler. Gardiner served as president of New Mexico Gas Company, starting in 2008. Previously, she worked at SEMCO Energy Gas Co., in Port Huron, Mich., holding positions of increasing responsibility. Those included director of engineering, vice president of technical services and regulatory affairs, and vice president of operations.

CMS Energy Corp. Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended September 30, 2014; Reaffirms Earnings Guidance for the Year 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for 2015

CMS Energy Corp. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2014. For the quarter, operating revenue was $1,430 million against $1,445 million a year ago. Operating income was $236 million against $317 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $141 million against $218 million a year ago. Net income available to common stockholders was $94 million or $0.34 per basic and diluted share against $126 million or $0.46 per diluted share a year ago. Adjusted net income, non-GAAP basis was $103 million or $0.37 per basic and diluted share against $126 million or $0.46 per diluted share a year ago. For the nine months, operating revenue was $5,421 million against $4,830 million a year ago. Operating income was $879 million against $878 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $577 million against $592 million a year ago. Net income available to common stockholders was $381 million or $1.39 per diluted share against $350 million or $1.29 per diluted share a year ago. Cash provided by operating activities was $962 million against $1,118 million a year ago. Adjusted net income, non-GAAP basis was $390 million or $1.42 per diluted share against $350 million or $1.29 per diluted share a year ago. For the year 2014, the company reaffirmed adjusted earnings per share guidance of $1.76 to $1.78, consistent with the company's long-term plan of 5% to 7% annual earnings per share growth. Operating cash flow target may be at risk in 2014. For 2015, the company expects initial EPS guidance to up 5% to 7% and growth in operating cash flow up another $100 million.
