CNA Financial Corporation, through its subsidiaries, provides a range of property and casualty insurance products and services to small, middle market, and large businesses and organizations in the United States and internationally. It operates through CNA Specialty, CNA Commercial, and Hardy segments. The company’s property insurance products include standard and excess property coverage, marine coverage, and boiler and machinery; and casualty insurance products comprise workers’ compensation, general and product liability, commercial auto, and umbrella coverages. It also offers management and professional liability insurance, and risk management services to various professional firms, including architects, real estate agents, small and mid-sized accounting firms, law firms, and technology firms; directors and officers, employment practices, and fiduciary and fidelity insurance coverages to small and mid-size firms, privately held firms, and not-for-profit organizations; and professional liability and associated standard property and casualty coverages for long term care facilities, allied healthcare providers, life sciences, dental professionals, and mid-size and large healthcare facilities. In addition, the company offers risk management services relating to claim; information services to the large commercial insurance marketplace; and warranty services for vehicles and portable electronic communication devices. Further, the company underwrites various insurance coverages against energy, cargo and specie, marine hull, and general aviation; construction insurance; and political violence, accident and health, and financial institutions, as well as offers catastrophe reinsurance. It markets its products and services through independent agents, brokers, and managing general underwriters. The company was founded in 1853 and is based in Chicago, Illinois. CNA Financial Corporation is a subsidiary of Loews Corporation.

For the quarter, the company’s net operating income were $231 million or $0.86 per share against $226 million or $0.84 per share a year ago. Net income was $250 million or $0.93 per share against $250 million or $0.93 per share a year ago. Book value per share was $46.00 against $45.71 a year ago. Book value per share excluding AOCI was $43.30 against $42.62 a year ago. Operating ROE was 8%. Revenue was $2,479 million against $2,369 million a year ago. Income before income tax was $340 million against $334 million a year ago. The company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.20 per share, payable May 29, 2013 to stockholders of record on May 13, 2013.

CNA Financial Corporation Appoints Steve Marohn as Western Zone Officer

CNA Financial Corporation announced the appointment of Steve Marohn as Western Zone Officer, effective April 22. The Zone includes branch offices in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Phoenix and Albuquerque. In addition to leading the Western Zone, Steve will also manage the San Francisco Branch. Steve joins CNA after 18 years with AIG, where he most recently served as Executive Vice President for AIG Japan Holdings in Tokyo, Japan.
