The company’s property insurance products include property coverage, marine coverage, and boiler and machinery solutions; and casualty insurance products comprise workers’ compensation, general and product liability, commercial auto, and umbrella coverage solutions. It also provides surety and fidelity bonds; management and professional liability insurance, and risk management services to various professional firms, including architects, real estate agents, small and mid-sized accounting firms, law firms, and others; directors and officers, employment practices, and fiduciary and fidelity insurance coverage solutions to small and mid-size firms, public and privately held firms, and not-for-profit organizations; and professional and general liability and associated standard property and casualty coverage solutions for healthcare industry. In addition, the company underwrites various insurances against energy, cargo and specie, marine hull, and general aviation; construction insurance; and political violence, accident and health, and financial institutions, as well as offers catastrophe reinsurance. CNA Financial Corporation markets its products and services through independent agents, brokers, and managing general underwriters. The company was founded in 1853 and is based in Chicago, Illinois. CNA Financial Corporation is a subsidiary of Loews Corporation.

CNA Financial Corporation announced the appointment of Gary DelBuono as vice president of Product Management, effective August 11, 2014. In this role, Gary will oversee enterprise product development, partnering closely with Underwriting in developing product solutions for CNA's Commercial and Specialty lines. CNA Financial Corporation Declares Quarterly Dividend, Payable on September 3, 2014; Reports Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2014

CNA Financial also declared a quarterly dividend of $0.25 per share, payable on September 3, 2014 to stockholders of record on August 18, 2014. The company reported earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net operating income of $272 million or $0.98 diluted per share and net income of $267 million or $0.98 diluted per share compared to net operating income of $199 million or $0.74 diluted per share and net income of $194 million or $0.72 diluted per share reported a year ago. Net earned premiums were $1,654 million against $1,720 million a year ago. Net investment income increased to $391 million for the second quarter of 2014 as compared with $368 million in the prior year quarter. For the six months, the company reported net operating income of $462 million or $1.71 diluted per share and net income of $280 million or $1.03 diluted per share compared to net operating income of $424 million or $1.57 diluted per share and net income of $444 million or $1.64 diluted per share reported a year ago. Book value per share was $48.43 compared to $46.91 as at December 31, 2013. Book value per share excluding AOCI was $44.87 compared to $45.26 as at December 31, 2013. Net earned premiums were $3,421 million against $3,496 million a year ago.
