Its acreage covers the majority of the Pedirka Basin within the Northern Territory and South Australia; the majority of the Amadeus Basin in the Northern Territory; Lander Trough in the Northern Territory; and the southern Georgina Basin. The company was formerly known as Merlin Petroleum Limited and changed its name to Central Petroleum Limited in 2005. Central Petroleum Limited was founded in 1998 and is based in Toowong, Australia.
