Google and Citrix Collaborate on New Ways to Deliver Business-Critical Windows Apps to Chromebooks

Citrix is working with Google to deliver business-critical Windows apps to Google Chromebooks. Chromebooks are experiencing rapidly growing adoption across organizations of all types, including many of the enterprises, as they look to transition to new and innovative computing platforms. One of the key needs for these organizations is to provide users anywhere, anytime access to Windows apps that are critical for business, such as line of business apps for HR, finance and sales. Chromebooks for Business, combined with Citrix XenApp(R) virtual app delivery solution and Citrix Receiver(TM) for HTML5, enable customers to deliver all types of Windows apps with the high-definition user experience of Citrix HDX(TM) technology, and operational scalability for the organizations. In addition to secure app delivery, Citrix adds support for collaboration with the recently announced GoToMeeting(R) Free, a web-based app that gives users quick and simple video conferencing for Chromebook users, further enhancing a mobile workspace solution within the Chrome environment. Enterprises looking to adopt Chromebooks for their users have to address a fundamental challenge -- how to deliver all those business-critical line-of-business apps to Chrome devices. XenApp with the HTML5 Receiver powers Chromebooks with Windows apps, and offers the performance, power and bandwidth efficiency of HDX technology. Chromebook users get high fidelity, seamless access over the cloud directly to Windows apps. With millions of Windows applications hosted on XenApp already, this helps pave the way for Chromebooks in the enterprise.

Citrix Announces Availability of NetScaler

Citrix announced the availability of NetScaler(R), cloud networking functionality, as a remote services blade for the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Switch. This unique integration of NetScaler into the Nexus 7000 has been jointly developed between the two companies using the Cisco Remote Integrated Service Engine (RISE) technology. Once installed, NetScaler integrates an external appliance as if it were an embedded service module directly to the switch backplane in order to leverage the intelligence of the switch itself. This enables automated control, simplified deployment and an overall lower cost of operations while still delivering the standalone performance, availability and reliability of a best-in-class application delivery controller (ADC). Key capabilities of Citrix NetScaler integration with Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Switch with RISE technology include: Plug and Play Set up - RISE technology significantly reduces the number of steps required to integrate NetScaler with the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Switch. The process is reduced from 45 steps with a generic ADC without RISE, to only nine steps when using NetScaler with RISE. As well as reducing set up time, RISE keeps the network configurations in sync so that ongoing maintenance and upgrades are greatly simplified, and risk from configuration errors is greatly reduced. Reduced Downtime - Real-time route updates between NetScaler and the Nexus 7000 Series Switch ensure fast recovery from service failures by up to 40 times. By enabling NetScaler to deliver route health updates to the Nexus 7000 Series Switch via RISE, customers can more easily deploy shared services within and across datacenters at a significantly reduced cost of operation and with greater availability than ever before. Ease of Monitoring - RISE integration brings greater visibility across the datacenter by eliminating the need to hide source IP addresses through full proxy ADC services. This ensures that NetScaler has more visibility into monitoring infrastructures across the datacenter and ensures tighter control of the environment. Integrated multi-tenancy support - RISE integration spans the multi-tenancy features of NetScaler and Nexus 7000 Series switches. Building on the advanced multi-tenancy capabilities of NetScaler SDX, this provides comprehensive flexibility in supporting private and public cloud scenarios, including the ability to set up Cisco Nexus VDCs and NetScaler instances in one-to-many, many-to-one, and a countless variety of many-to-many configurations. Citrix NetScaler as a remote services blade for the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Switch is available in April 2014.

Citrix Announces Security and Feature Enhancements to the Citrix XenMobile Solution

Citrix announced new security and feature enhancements to the Citrix XenMobile solution. The new release empowers organizations in highly regulated industries, such as government agencies, to embrace device choice, improve productivity with quick access to more apps, and provide support for Microsoft Lync online meetings and other communication environments, without sacrificing security, control and most importantly, user experience. XenMobile enables government agencies and other highly regulated organizations to mobilize their employees without sacrificing security or control. The security and feature enhancements to XenMobile include: FIPS 140-2 compliant encryption for mobile apps, including secure email, browser and content collaboration. XenMobile creates a secure encrypted vault for application data on mobile devices so that government and enterprise workers can access critical documents and applications securely. Better-than-native secure mobile email, calendar and contacts through the WorxMail(TM) app with FIPS compliant encryption for data at rest and data in motion. New enhancements include one-click access to leading communication and collaboration apps, such as Microsoft Lync, the FaceTime app, and SMS messaging directly from WorxMail calendar and contacts. Support for a variety of email and collaboration solutions, such as existing systems like the IBM Lotus Notes client. Government workers also have secure mobile intranet access with single sign-on (SSO) to portals and SharePoint sites using the WorxWeb(TM) app, a containerized browser with full policy control. Support for newly launched Apple iOS 7.1 and Microsoft Windows 8.1 operating systems, allowing devices with these new operating systems to be managed and controlled with XenMobile. XenMobile also adds VPN support for Amazon Kindle devices, enabling them to connect to corporate environments. XenMobile provides a complete EMM solution for highly regulated organizations to manage mobile apps, data and devices. With XenMobile, government agencies and enterprises gain control over personal and corporate-issued mobile devices with full configuration, security, provisioning and support capabilities. This also includes visibility into currently deployed BlackBerry devices. XenMobile meets IT departments' need for mobile security, compliance and control while allowing employees new ways to work better. Citrix XenMobile 8.7 will be available for download for current customers March month.
