Cubic Corporation designs, develops, manufactures, and sells mass transit fare collection systems, air and ground combat training systems, and secure communications products for various federal and regional government agencies in the United States and internationally. It operates in three segments: Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), Mission Support Services (MSS), and Cubic Defense Systems (CDS). The CTS segment provides fare collection devices, software, systems and multiagency, multimodal integration technologies, and operational services for public transportation authorities and operators. It also offers various services, including computer hosting, call center and Web, payment media issuance and distribution, retail point of sale network management, payment processing, financial clearing and settlement, software application support, and outsourced asset operations and maintenance services. The MSS segment offers support services, such as live, virtual, and constructive training; real-world mission rehearsal exercises; professional military education; intelligence support, information technology, information assurance, and related cyber support; military doctrine development; consequence management, infrastructure protection, and force protection; risk mitigation, and subject matter and operational services for law enforcement and homeland security clients; and support services for field operations, force deployment and redeployment, and logistics. The CDS segment provides military range instrumentation, laser based training, virtual simulation, and game-based synthetic training systems, as well as involved in live-fire range design and maintenance activities; and communications products, including datalinks, power amplifiers, avionics systems, multi-band communication tracking devices, and cross domain hardware solutions to address multi-level security requirements. The company was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in San Diego, California.

Cubic Corporation Announces Consolidated Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Year Ended September 30, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Year 2015

Cubic Corporation announced consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended September 30, 2014. For the quarter sales were $396.4 million in 2014, 16% higher than sales of $340.8 million in the corresponding quarter last year. The increase in sales for the fourth quarter was principally due to strong CTS segment sales in the U.K. and Australia, as well as increased training system sales from CDS. Revenue from two businesses acquired by Cubic during the year totaled $16.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2014. Record net income of $32.8 million, or $1.22 per diluted share, was driven by the growth in operating income for the quarter. Operating income was $39.3 million for the fourth quarter compared to an operating loss of $44.1 million in 2013. The 2014 operating income was positively impacted by the higher margins from increased sales in the U.K., Australia, and the U.S. For the year, the company reported net sales of $1,398,352,000 against $1,361,407,000 a year ago. Sales increased for the year from both CTS and CDS, but declined from MSS. Organic sales decreased 3%, while businesses acquired in 2014 and 2013 increased sales by $73.6 million. Operating income was $92,490,000 against $40,735,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $89,411,000 against $39,771,000 a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $69,491,000 or $2.59 basic and diluted per share against $25,086,000 or $0.94 basic and diluted per share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $114,810,000 against net cash used in operating activities of $13,276,000 a year ago. Purchases of property, plant and equipment was $16,620,000 against $9,052,000 a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA increased to $122,930,000 in fiscal year 2014 from $116,959,000 in 2013, and was 9% of sales in both years. For the year 2015, the company provided sales guidance of $1.425 billion to $1.465 billion; and the company expects EPS to be $2.60 to $2.85 for 2015. The company expecting a higher tax rate in the range of 26% to 27%, as profitability will improve in jurisdictions where tax rates are higher. The company expects $7 million to $8 million increase in R&D. The company anticipating strong positive operating cash flows.

Cubic Corporation Approves Increase in Semi-Annual Cash Dividend

On November 21, 2014, the board of directors of Cubic Corporation approved a 12.5% increase in the cash dividend on the company's common stock. The semi-annual dividend will increase from $0.12 per share to $0.135 per share, with the first dividend at the new rate expected to be declared in February 2015.

Cubic Corporation Receives $20 Million Contract from Royal Australian Air Force

Cubic Corporation has received a new contract valued at more than $20 million from the Royal Australian Air Force, or RAAF, to provide the fifth generation Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation, or ACMI, P5 Tactical Combat Training System, or P5 TCTS. The contract provides the Royal Australia Air force with a major increase in P5 TCTS allowing use across all Air Combat Group aircraft platforms for pilot training. The P5 TCTS combat trainer is designed to provide real-time and post-mission training for air-to-air, air-to-ground, and surface-to-air combat missions by recording mission data and relaying time, space and positioning information between participating aircraft during training sorties. Key components of the system include GPS-enabled aircraft-mounted airborne instrumentation "pods" and ground stations, which will help aircrew to conduct, monitor and control air combat training and post-flight debriefing, as well as the flexibility to carry out anywhere, anytime training capability. Cubic is the prime contractor responsible for performance in all areas of systems engineering, and for development/integration/installation of the ground instrumentation subsystem. DRS Training & Control Systems, LLC is the principal subcontractor responsible for performance of the P5CTS airborne instrumentation subsystem to include design, development, aircraft integration and production.
