Covanta Holding Corporation, through its subsidiaries, provides waste and energy services to municipal entities primarily in North America. The company owns and operates infrastructure for the conversion of waste to energy, as well as is engaged in other waste disposal and renewable energy production businesses. It is also involved in the disposal of waste and the generation of electricity, as well as in the sale of metal recovered during the energy-from-waste process. The company owns and operates 46 energy-from-waste facilities; and 11 additional energy generation facilities, including wood biomass and hydroelectric renewable energy production facilities in North America. In addition, it owns and operates 18 transfer stations and 4 ash landfills in the Northeast United States, as well as provides waste procurement services; and owns an interest in a 24 MW (gross) coal-fired cogeneration facility in Taixing City, the People’s Republic of China. Further, the company offers recycling and recovery solutions that provide alternatives to landfills; and provides property and casualty insurance products in California. The company was formerly known as Danielson Holding Corporation. Covanta Holding Corporation was founded in 1960 and is based in Morristown, New Jersey.

Covanta Holding Corporation reported un-audited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported total operating revenues of $432 million compared to $411 million, operating income of $47 million compared to $55 million, income from continuing operations before income tax expense and equity in net income from unconsolidated investments of $9 million compared to $19 million, income from continuing operations of $2 million or $0.02 per diluted share compared to $13 million or $0.09 per diluted share, net income attributable to the company of $2 million or $0.02 per diluted share compared to net loss attributable to the company of $38 million or $0.30 per diluted share, cash flow provided by operating activities from continuing operations of $41 million compared to $40 million, maintenance capital expenditures of $25 million compared to $19 million, free cash flow of $15 million compared to $23 million, adjusted EPS of $0.06 per share compared to $0.12 and adjusted EBITDA of $121 million compared to $124 million for the last year. For the six months, the company reported total operating revenues of $833 million compared to $783 million, operating income of $62 million compared to $53 million, loss from continuing operations before income tax expense and equity in net income from unconsolidated investments of $15 million compared to $20 million, loss from continuing operations of $7 million or $0.05 per diluted share compared to $11 million or $0.08 per diluted share, net loss attributable to the company of $7 million or $0.05 per diluted share compared to $63 million or $0.49 per diluted share, cash flow provided by operating activities from continuing operations of $143 million compared to $104 million, maintenance capital expenditures of $61 million compared to $57 million, free cash flow of $82 million compared to $50 million, adjusted EPS of $0.04 per share compared to adjusted LPS of $0.07, adjusted EBITDA of $208 million compared to $185 million, net cash provided by operating activities of $143 million compare to $97 million and purchase of property, plant and equipment of $115 million compare to $97 million for the last year. The company provided earnings guidance for the year 2014. For the year, the company expects adjusted EBITDA in the range of $470 - $500 million, free cash flow in the range of $170 - $210 million and adjusted EPS in the range of $0.35 - $0.50. For the second quarter, the company announced net write-offs of $7 million compared to $4 million in the same period last year.
