Dorel Industries Inc. manufactures and sells juvenile products, bicycles, and furniture worldwide. It operates in three segments: Juvenile, Recreational/Leisure, and Home Furnishings. The Juvenile Segment manufactures and imports products, such as infant car seats, strollers, high chairs, toddler beds, playpens, swings, furniture items, and infant health and safety aids. This segment markets its products under the Cosco, Safety 1st, Maxi-Cosi, Quinny, Bébé Confort, Baby Art, and Mother’s Choice, as well as Walt Disney and Eddie Bauer brands. The Recreational/Leisure segment offers bicycles, bicycling and running footwear and apparel, jogging strollers, bicycle trailers, children’s electric ride-ons, and toys, as well as related parts and accessories under the Schwinn, Mongoose, Roadmaster, Iron Horse, InStep, Schwinn, and KidTrax brands. The Home Furnishings segment provides ready-to assemble furniture for home and office, as well as metal folding furniture, futons, mattresses, bunk beds, step stools, hand trucks, specialty ladders, and other imported furniture products. This segment markets its products under the Ameriwood, Altra, System Build, Ridgewood, DHP, Dorel Fine Furniture, Signature Sleep, and Cosco brands. The company sells its products to mass merchant discount chains, specialty stores, department stores, club format outlets, hardware/home centers, independent stores, sporting goods stores, and Internet retailers. It owns and operates 88 retail stores in Chile and Peru. The company was formerly known as Dorel Co. Ltd. and changed its name to Dorel Industries Inc. in May 1987. Dorel Industries Inc. was founded in 1962 and is headquartered in Montreal, Canada.

Dorel Industries Inc. Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Full Year 2014

Dorel Industries Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company has posted total revenue of $647,701,000 against $594,168,000 a year ago. Operating profit was $39,097,000 against $29,178,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $29,818,000 against $24,696,000 a year ago. Net income was $24,800,000 or $0.77 diluted per share against $22,316,000 or $0.70 diluted per share a year ago. Cash provided by operating activities was $4,184,000 against cash used in operating activities of $19,254,000 a year ago. Additions to property, plant and equipment was $10,030,000 against $6,645,000 a year ago. Additions to intangible assets were $4,706,000 against $5,342,000 a year ago. The company announced an expected earnings growth of at least 10% for the year in 2014. After the first quarter the company remains confident of this expectation. In home furnishings, the company still expects moderate growth in sales and earnings for the year, but due to timing the second quarter will likely be below prior year as the second quarter in 2013 was particularly strong.
