The Dow Chemical Company manufactures and supplies chemical products for use as raw materials in the manufacture of customer products and services worldwide. The Electronic and Functional Materials segment produces materials for chemical mechanical planarization; materials used in the production of electronic displays, including films and filters; metalorganic precursors for light-emitting diodes; organic light-emitting diode materials; materials used in the fabrication of printed circuit boards; integrated metallization processes for metal finishing and decorative applications; semiconductor design products; and materials for industrial applications. The Coatings and Infrastructure Solutions segment provides insulation, air sealing and weatherization products and systems, construction chemical solutions, building-integrated photovoltaics, water resistance and lower systems; purification and separation technologies; and acrylates, methacrylates, and vinyl acetate monomers. The Agricultural Sciences segment offers crop protection and plant biotechnology products, urban pest management solutions, seeds, traits, and oils. The Performance Materials segment produces amines; chlorinated organics; materials for automotive systems, formulated systems, and oil and gas, and mining industrial applications; plastic additives; epoxies; oxygenated solvents; polyglycols, surfactants, and fluids; polyurethanes; and propylene oxide/glycol. The Performance Plastics segment offers elastomers; wire and cable insulation, semiconductive and jacketing compound solutions, and bio-based plasticizers; and acrylics, polyethylene, polyethylene, polyolefin emulsions, and polyolefin plastomers. The Feedstocks and Energy segment provides ethylene, chlorine, caustic soda, and purified ethylene oxide. The Dow Chemical Company was founded in 1897 and is headquartered in Midland, Michigan.

The Dow Chemical Company announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the second quarter, the company’s net sales were $14.917 billion, up 2% compared to $14.577 billion for the year-ago period, or 3% on an adjusted basis. Income before income taxes was $1,314 million against $3,238 million a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $967 million against $2,425 million a year ago. Net income available for the company common stockholders was $882 million or $0.73 per diluted share against $2,340 million or $1.87 per diluted share a year ago. Capital expenditures were $864 million against $506 million a year ago. EBITDA was $2.224 billion against $4.166 billion a year ago. Cash flow from operations was $1.4 billion for the quarter. Adjusted sales were $14,917 million against $14,497 million a year ago. Diluted adjusted earnings per share were $0.74 against $0.64 a year ago. For the six months, the company’s net sales were $29.378 billion against $28.960 billion a year ago. Income before income taxes was $2,805 million against $4,502 million a year ago. Dow to Begin Construction on New World-Scale Ethylene Production Facility in Texas on June 30

On June 30, The Dow Chemical Company will begin construction of its previously announced world-scale ethylene production facility, representing a prominent milestone in delivering on its strategy to invest in its performance-based portfolio of technology-enabled businesses. This significant investment in Dow's Texas Operations in Freeport remains on track and on-plan for start-up in the first half of 2017, and will employ up to 2,000 workers during construction. Construction on Dow's on-purpose propylene PDH project in Freeport, Texas is more than 30% complete -- part of the company's multi-billion dollar investments on the U.S. Gulf Coast. With a nameplate capacity of approximately 1500 KTA, Dow's new ethylene production facility is part of a multi-billion dollar investment. Alongside previously announced plastics and elastomers facilities, this will support market growth and expansions of Dow's leading Performance Plastics franchise that includes: Next Generation NORDEL(TM) metallocene EPDM to serve the consumer durables, automotive and electrical cable markets. (Capacity: 200 KTA), High Melt Specialty Index Elastomers used in hot melt adhesives for high performance flexible packaging, and hygiene and medical markets. (Capacity: 320 KTA), ELITE(TM) Enhanced Polyethylene for high performance flexible packaging and hygiene & medical markets. (Capacity: 400 KTA) and new specialty low density polyethylene for protective packaging and power transmission markets. (Capacity: 350 KTA).
