European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company EADS N.V., Q1 2013 Earnings Call, May 14, 2013
European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company EADS N.V. announced group earnings results for the first quarter March 31, 2013. During the quarter, EADS' revenues increased 9% to EUR 12.4 billion from EUR 11.4 billion a year ago, mainly reflecting the higher aircraft deliveries at Airbus Commercial. EBIT before one-off increased to EUR 741 million from EUR 475 million a year ago. EADS' reported EBIT increased to EUR 596 million against EUR 333 million a year ago. The finance loss amounted to EUR 251 million against EUR 143 million a year ago. The deviation compared to first quarter of 2012 mainly reflects a negative foreign exchange revaluation. Net income increased significantly to EUR 241 million against EUR 126 million a year ago, or earnings per share of EUR 0.29 against earnings per share of EUR 0.15 a year ago. Free cash outflow before acquisitions amounted to EUR 3,195 million against EUR 1,233 million a year ago. Capital expenditure increased to EUR 670 million to support development programmes. EBITDA was EUR 1,029 million against EUR 766 million a year ago. Based on the first quarter results, EADS reaffirmed its guidance for the full year 2013. Due to lower A380 deliveries and assuming an exchange rate of EUR 1 = $1.35, EADS revenues should see moderate growth in 2013. By stretching the 2012 underlying margin improvement, in 2013 EADS targets an EBIT before one-off of EUR 3.5 billion and an EPS before one-off of around EUR 2.50 against EUR 2.24 reported in the previous year, prior to the on-going share buyback. EADS aims to be free cash flow breakeven after customer financing and before acquisitions in 2013.
