EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG operates as an integrated energy company in Germany and Europe. It operates in four segments: Generation and Trading, Renewable Energies, Grids, and Sales. The Sales segment sells electricity, gas, district heating, water, and energy services to retail and commercial customers, industrial customers, redistributors, SMEs, chains, municipalities, and public utilities under the EnBW, Yello Strom, and NaturEnergiePlus brand names; develops Sustainable City project; offers advisory, meter-to-cash settlement, energy, efficiency, system, and infrastructure services. The Grids segment operates electricity and natural gas transmission and distribution grids, and communication network; supplies drinking water; and provides grid-related and other services in the electricity and gas business. This segment operates a length of 155,000km of electricity grid, 16,000km of gas grid, and 2,000 km of communication network. The Renewable Energies segment constructs, operates, and manages renewable power plants generating power from hydro and wind energies. The Generation and Trading segment is involved in constructing, operating, and decommissioning conventional thermal and nuclear power plants; providing advisory services for power plants; trading electricity; building gas midstream operations; disposal of waste in thermal waste treatment plants, and management and recycling of related waste-to-energy; and operates a natural gas storage facility; and trading coal, gas, and oil, as well as CO2 allowances. The company supplies electricity, gas, water, and energy-related products and services to approximately 5.5 million customers. EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG is headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany.

EnBW Group Reports Earnings Results for the First Half of 2014; Re-Affirms Earnings Guidance for the Full Year 2014

EnBW Group reported earnings results for the first half of 2014. For the period, the company achieved an operating result (adjusted EBITDA) of EUR 1,271.5 million with 19,926 employees and almost unchanged revenue of around EUR 10.4 billion. Earnings were 9.9% below the figure for the first half of 2013. The adjusted group net profit (excluding the non-operating Group net loss) attributable to the equity holders of EnBW AG stood at EUR 381.0 million in the reporting period. This corresponds to a decrease of 19.9% in comparison with the value for the previous year of EUR 475.5 million. The non-operating group net loss deteriorated due to the developments, from EUR 285 million in the previous year to EUR 1,116.1 million. This resulted in an overall group net loss of EUR 735.1 million against net profit of EUR 190.5 million. The cash flow from operating activities increased by 41.3% in the first half of 2014 to EUR 1,054.2 million compared to the figure in the previous year of EUR 746.0 million. This was primarily due to the balance of trade receivables and payables, which was influenced by the mild weather conditions and factors relating to the German Renewable Energies Act (EEG). EBITDA was EUR 899 million against EUR 1.101.1 million a year ago. LBIT was EUR 789.9 million against EBIT of EUR 661.5 million a year ago. Sales were EUR 4,622.5 million against EUR 5,015.7 million a year ago. Free cash flow was EUR 474.6 million against EUR 535.6 million a year ago. Capital expenditures were EUR 752.1 million against EUR 378.4 million a year ago. Adjusted group net profit was EUR 381 million against EUR 475.5 million a year ago. The company has confirmed its previous prognosis for the 2014 financial year and continues to expect that the adjusted EBITDA at a Group level will be between 0% and -5% below the 2013 level.
