Edison International, through its subsidiaries, generates and supplies electricity. The company generates electricity through hydroelectric, diesel, natural gas, gas fueled, combustion turbine, nuclear, and photovoltaic sources. It supplies electricity primarily to residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and other customers, as well as public authorities through transmission and distribution networks. The company’s transmission facilities consist of lines ranging from 33 kV to 500 kV and substations; and distribution system comprises approximately 53,000 line miles of overhead lines, 37,000 line miles of underground lines, and approximately 800 distribution substations located in California. It serves approximately 5 million customer accounts. The company was formerly known as SCEcorp and changed its name to Edison International in February 1996. Edison International was incorporated in 1887 and is based in Rosemead, California.

Edison International reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported operating revenue of $4,356 million compared to $3,960 million a year ago. Operating income was $874 million compared to $789 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations before income taxes was $744 million compared to $665 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $524 million compared to $488 million a year ago. Net income from continuing operations attributable to common shareholders was $496 million or $1.51 diluted per share compared to $463 million or $1.41 diluted per share a year ago. Net income attributable to company stockholders was $480 million or $1.46 per diluted share compared to $438 million or $1.34 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Core earnings increased $26 million, or $0.08 per share, primarily due to higher authorized revenues from rate base growth partially offset by lower income tax benefits. Core earnings exclude losses of $16 million, or $0.05 per share, from discontinued operations. Edison International's third quarter 2013 core earnings exclude losses of $25 million, or $0.08 per share, from discontinued operations. For the nine months, the company reported operating revenue of $10,298 million compared to $9,638 million a year ago. Operating income was $1,779 million compared to $1,212 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations before income taxes was $1,414 million compared to $863 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $1,130 million compared to $690 million a year ago. Net income from continuing operations attributable to common shareholders was $1,046 million or $3.18 diluted per share compared to $615 million or $1.87 diluted per share a year ago. Net income attributable to company stockholders was $1,192 million or $3.62 diluted per share compared to $614 million or $1.87 diluted per share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $2,027 million compared to $2,070 million a year ago. Capital expenditures were $2,856 million compared to $2,761 million a year ago. Core earnings were $2.98 compared to $2.11 a year ago. Core earnings were $1,142 million, or $3.50 per share, compared to $973 million, or $2.98 per share, in the year-to-date period in 2013. Core earnings exclude charges of $96 million, or $0.29 per share, related to SCE's settlement agreement for San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) and $146 million, or $0.45 per share, of income from discontinued operations. Year-to-date 2013 core earnings exclude the $365 million, or $1.12 per share, SONGS charge, and $7 million, or $0.02 per share, of earnings from tax benefits related to the sale of a lease investment in 2012. The company increased its 2014 core earnings guidance to $4.25 to $4.35 per share and its basic earnings guidance to $4.41 to $4.51 per share. The company previously declared core earnings guidance of $3.60 to $3.80 and basic earnings guidance to $3.24 to $3.44 per share. Basic EPS of $4.41 to $4.46 compared to previous guidance of $3.24 to $3.34. The company recorded impairment and other charges of $3 million for the third quarter ended September 30, 2014.

Edison International Announces Executive Changes

On October 10, 2014, Edison International announced that Robert L. Adler, Edison International's Executive Vice President and General Counsel, intends to retire effective on or about January 2, 2015. Also on October 10, 2014, Edison International announced the election of Adam S. Umanoff as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, effective upon Mr. Adler's retirement. Mr. Umanoff is a partner in the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
