Companhia Paranaense de Energia - COPEL is engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity to industrial, residential, commercial, and rural customers primarily in the State of Paraná, Brazil. As of December 31, 2013, the company operated 19 hydroelectric plants, 1 wind plant, and 1 thermoelectric plant with a total installed capacity of 4,756.1 megawatts; and owned and operated 2,173.5 kilometers of transmission lines and 187,876.5 kilometers of distribution lines. It holds concessions to distribute electricity in 394 municipalities in the State of Paraná and in the municipality of Porto União in the State of Santa Catarina. The company also provides corporate telecommunication services and international long-distance services to 3,238 corporate clients, including supermarkets, universities, banks, Internet service providers, and television networks; 5,032 retail clients; and broadband Internet access to public elementary and middle schools. In addition, it supplies piped gas to 21,018 customers, including thermoelectric plants, cogeneration plants, gas stations, other businesses, and residences through a gas distribution network covering 646 kilometers in the State of Paraná. Companhia Paranaense de Energia – COPEL was founded in 1954 and is headquartered in Curitiba, Brazil.

The plant will be auctioned after the company decided not to extend in advance its current concession.

Companhia Paranaense de Energia announced consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and first half ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported operating revenues of BRL 3,084,841,000 against BRL 2,122,247,000 a year ago. Operating income was BRL 355 million against BRL 368 million a year ago. Net income was BRL 248 million or BRL 0.91 per share against BRL 252 million or BRL 0.92 per share a year ago. EBITDA was BRL 467 million against BRL 439 million a year ago. Return on shareholder’s equity (annualized) was 7.9% against 8.4% a year ago. Capex was BRL 545 million against BRL 341 million a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was BRL 733.1 million against BRL 407.8 million a year ago. Profit before financial results and taxes were BRL 312,591,000 against BRL 293,332,000 a year ago. Additions to intangible assets related to the concessions were BRL 518,594,000 against BRL 464,865,000 a year ago. Additions to intangible assets- concessions and permission rights were BRL 12,769,000. Additions to other intangible assets were BRL 15,335,000 against BRL 2,878,000 a year ago.

Copel's Copel GT Launches 230-KV Substation Cerquilho III

Copel GT, the unit of Copel, has launched the 230-KV Cerquilho III substation in its concession area in the southeastern state of Sao Paulo. The facility in the Cerquilho municipality, which has received over BRL 40 million (USD 17.7 million/EUR 13.2 million) investments, has two transformers of combined capacity of 300 MVA. The new substation will complement the operations of the substations Botucatu, Capao Bonito, Jurumirim and Itarare II, all in the southeastern parts of Sao Paulo.
