Companhia Paranaense de Energia - COPEL is engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity to industrial, residential, commercial, and rural customers primarily in the State of Paraná, Brazil. As of December 31, 2013, the company operated 19 hydroelectric plants, 1 wind plant, and 1 thermoelectric plant with a total installed capacity of 4,756.1 megawatts; and owned and operated 2,173.5 kilometers of transmission lines and 187,876.5 kilometers of distribution lines. It holds concessions to distribute electricity in 394 municipalities in the State of Paraná and in the municipality of Porto União in the State of Santa Catarina. The company also provides corporate telecommunication services and international long-distance services to 3,238 corporate clients, including supermarkets, universities, banks, Internet service providers, and television networks; 5,032 retail clients; and broadband Internet access to public elementary and middle schools. In addition, it supplies piped gas to 21,018 customers, including thermoelectric plants, cogeneration plants, gas stations, other businesses, and residences through a gas distribution network covering 646 kilometers in the State of Paraná. Companhia Paranaense de Energia – COPEL was founded in 1954 and is headquartered in Curitiba, Brazil.

Copel Considers Bid For Parigot Hydroelectric

The management of Companhia Paranaense de Energia (BOVESPA:CPLE6) has not decided yet if it is to bid for the concession tender of the hydroelectric Parigot de Souza, a 260 Mw utility at Parana state, which concession contract ends July 2015. Copel has not renewed the Parigot concession and is turning it back to the electric power regulatory agency Aneel.

Copel Reportedly Eyeing HPP

Companhia Paranaense de Energia (BOVESPA:CPLE6) (Copel) may consider bidding again for the 260-MW Parigot de Souza hydroelectric power plant (HPP). daily Valor quoted Investor relations Managern Artur Pessuti as saying about the possible acquisitions. The plant will be auctioned after the company decided not to extend in advance its current concession.
