Companhia Paranaense de Energia - COPEL engages in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity primarily to industrial, residential, commercial, and rural customers primarily in the State of Paraná, Brazil. As of December 31, 2012, the company operated 18 hydroelectric plants, 1 wind plant, and 1 thermoelectric plant with a total installed capacity of 4,737.1 megawatts; and owned and operated 2,023.3 kilometers of transmission lines and 186,365.2 kilometers of distribution lines. It holds concessions to distribute electricity in 394 municipalities in the State of Paraná and in the municipality of Porto União in the State of Santa Catarina. The company also provides corporate telecommunication services and international long-distance services to 3,141 corporate clients, including supermarkets, universities, banks, Internet service providers, and television networks; and broadband Internet access to public elementary and middle schools. In addition, it supplies piped gas to 16,405 customers, including thermoelectric plants, cogeneration plants, gas stations, other businesses, and residences through a gas distribution network covering 602 kilometers in the State of Paraná. Additions to property, plant, and equipment were BRL 10,201,000 against BRL 216,804,000 a year ago. Additions to intangible assets related to the concessions were BRL 194,542,000 against BRL 147,239,000 a year ago. Additions to other intangible assets were BRL 656,000 against BRL 2,054,000 a year ago. Earnings per share were BRL 1.46. Annualized return on shareholders equity was 13.4% against 11.0% a year ago. Net debt was BRL 1,559 million. Adjusted EBITDA by regulatory assets and liabilities was BRL 705 million against BRL 598 million a year ago. Capital expenditure was BRL 270 million against BRL 379 million a year ago. Operating income was BRL 592 million. Net income was BRL 399 million. Earnings per share were BRL 1.46 against BRL 1.17 a year ago. EBITDA was BRL 664,908,000 against BRL 602,111,000 a year ago. Book value per share was BRL 46.62 per share. The company announced write off of intangible assets related to concession-goodwill of BRL 14,847,000, write off of intangible assets of BRL 3,074,000, write off of property, plant, and equipment of BRL 578,000 for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013.
