EMC Corporation Announces New Features and Configurations for EMC XtremIO All-Flash Arrays

EMC Corporation announced new features and configurations, ecosystem integrations, and business programs for EMC XtremIO all-flash arrays. New XtremIO 3.0 capabilities deliver enterprise data centers with leaps forward in performance, consolidation, and application agility through intelligent always-on, inline data services. These free software upgrades, available for existing XtremIO arrays, improve IT agility and deliver breakthrough user experience and economics. The XtremIO value proposition is simple: Advanced always-on, inline data services are critical to enabling superior economics, usability, capabilities, and consistent and predictable high performance regardless of workload - it's an architectural must-have for all-flash arrays. XtremIO set the benchmark for consistent and predictable performance, and now, with these enhancements, delivers new levels of value through a breakthrough metadata space-efficient snapshot capability, improved capacity efficiency, and additional rich data services that make enterprise data centers simpler and more agile. The software-centric XtremIO architecture easily and rapidly offers new capabilities through a simple code upgrade. New entry-level configuration called the Starter X-Brick, available now, offers the full performance and data services of a standard XtremIO array in a low-cost 5TB configuration, with online non-disruptive capacity expansion to a full 10TB X-Brick. Customers simply add more SSDs when they want to expand capacity. Ideal for consolidated workloads, XtremIO arrays now support up to six 20TB X-Bricks with 12 active controllers, enabling a 50% IOPS performance increase and 50% more capacity, while maintaining XtremIO's sub-millisecond latency (orderable this quarter). Available now, XtremIOsnapshots are free from limitations of performance, features, topology, or capacity reservations.

EMC Corporation Unveils VMAX Family

EMC Corporation has unveiled VMAX Family, which transforms VMAX from enterprise storage to an enterprise data service platform. This fundamentally changes what has - until now - been possible with enterprise storage by bringing new levels of cloud-like agility, efficiency and control within the data center. The VMAX enterprise data service platform enables customers to regain control of where best to run specific workloads, within the data center or in the public cloud. VMAX introduces this innovation to help customers manage their Storage-as-a-Service through predictable service levels at hybrid cloud scale. The rearchitecture of VMAX is based upon the new HYPERMAX OS and Dynamic Virtual Matrix architecture. HYPERMAX OS is the open converged storage hypervisor and operating system. It enables VMAX to embed storage infrastructure services like cloud access, data mobility and data protection directly on the array. This delivers new levels of data center efficiency and consolidation by reducing footprint and energy requirements. In addition, HYPERMAX OS delivers the ability to perform real-time and non-disruptive data services. The Dynamic Virtual Matrix architecture enables customers to dynamically allocate processing power for improved performance and to ensure predictable service levels at scale. The new VMAX hybrid systems -including the 100K, 200K and 400K - are purpose-built to support the hybrid cloud by dynamically allocating up to 384 processing cores on-demand to meet the performance requirements of dynamic mixed workloads. VMAX enables customers to hyper-consolidate enterprise applications. The new systems are designed so that customers can start "small" - from 100's of virtual machines - and grow to tens of thousands of virtual machines, all while delivering predictable service levels. VMAX offers up to 3X faster performance and 50% lower total cost of ownership as the previous generation VMAX, accelerating Oracle, SQL, SAP transactional processing, high bandwidth data analytics and file workloads. EMC ProtectPoint, a new data protection solution, enables direct backup from primary storage to protection storage. Providing up to 10x faster backup and instant access to protected data, this innovative approach enables backing up the VMAX directly to a Data Domain system, eliminating the need for traditional backup infrastructure and reducing total cost of ownership by up to 65%.
