Enbridge Inc. operates as an energy transportation and distribution company in the United States and Canada. Its Liquids Pipelines segment operates common carrier and contract crude oil, natural gas liquids (NGL), and refined products pipelines and terminals. The company’s Gas Distribution segment operates as a natural gas utility that serves residential, commercial, and industrial customers in central and eastern Ontario, and northern New York State, as well as in Quebec and New Brunswick. Its Gas Pipelines, Processing, and Energy Services segment invests in natural gas pipelines, including the United States portion of the Alliance System, the Vector Pipeline, and transmission and gathering pipelines in the Gulf of Mexico; and natural gas processing comprising Aux Sable, a natural gas fractionation and extraction business located near the terminus of the Alliance System, as well as involved in the renewable energy projects, such as wind, solar, and geothermal projects with a generating capacity of approximately 1,800 MW. This segment also provides energy supply and marketing services to refiners, producers, and other customers; customer services, such as transportation, storage, supply management, hedging programs, and product exchanges; and natural gas supply, transportation, balancing, and storage to third parties. The company’s Sponsored Investments segment transports crude oil and other liquid hydrocarbons through common carrier and feeder pipelines; and transports, gathers, processes, and markets natural gas and NGL. This segment is also involved in the renewable and alternative power generation with a capacity of approximately 500 MW; and crude oil transportation and storage. The company was formerly known as IPL Energy Inc. and changed its name to Enbridge Inc. in October 1998. Enbridge Inc. was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.

Enbridge Eyes Acquisitions

Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) expects to expand its power business to include natural gas-fired plants. It is actively looking at acquiring gas power projects valued at $100 million to $2 billion in both the U.S. and Canada, Don Thompson, Vice-President of green power and transmission, said. Enbridge is seeking facilities that have permits and initial engineering done. He said: "It's fair to say that gas will be part of that mix going forward," he said. "Natural gas has got a pretty bright future because of the supply picture and the need to replace all that coal."

Enbridge Inc. Receives Approval from NEB for Line 9B Reversal Project

Enbridge Inc. has received approval from the National Energy Board, or NEB, for the flow reversal and expansion of its Line 9B between Westover, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec. Combined with the previously approved project to reverse Line 9A between Sarnia, Ontario and Westover, these projects will enable the delivery of reliable, competitive North American crude oil for Ontario and Quebec based refineries.
