Enbridge Inc. operates as an energy transportation and distribution company in the United States and Canada. Its Liquids Pipelines segment operates common carrier and contract crude oil, natural gas liquids (NGL), and refined products pipelines and terminals. The company’s Gas Distribution segment operates as a natural gas utility serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers in central and eastern Ontario, and northern New York State, as well as in Quebec and New Brunswick. Its Gas Pipelines, Processing, and Energy Services segment invests in natural gas pipelines, including the United States portion of the Alliance System, the Vector Pipeline, and transmission and gathering pipelines in the Gulf of Mexico; natural gas processing comprising Aux Sable, a natural gas extraction and fractionation business located near Chicago; and renewable energy projects, such as wind, solar, and geothermal projects with approximately 800 mega watts of generating capacity located in Quebec, Colorado, Nevada, and Oregon. This segment also provides energy supply and marketing services to refiners, producers, and other customers; customer services for crude oil and NGL, such as transportation, storage, supply management, flexible pricing, hedging programs, and product exchanges; and natural gas supply, transportation, balancing, and storage to third parties. The company’s Sponsored Investments segment transports crude oil and other liquid hydrocarbons through common carrier and feeder pipelines; and transports, gathers, processes, and markets natural gas and NGL. This segment is also involved in the generation, transportation, and storage of energy with a renewable and alternative power generation capacity of 579 MW; crude oil transportation and storage; and natural gas transportation. The company was formerly known as IPL Energy Inc. and changed its name to Enbridge Inc. in October 1998. Enbridge Inc. was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.

Enbridge Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013. For the quarter, the company’s adjusted earnings were CAD 488 million or CAD 0.62 per common share against CAD 373 million or CAD 0.49 per common share a year ago. Earnings attributable to common shareholders decreased from CAD 261 million in the first quarter of 2012 to CAD 250 million in the first quarter of 2013. Increased adjusted earnings reflected higher volume throughput and tolls, specifically a higher Canadian Mainline International Joint Tariff Residual Benchmark Toll. Diluted earnings per common share were CAD 0.31 against CAD 0.34 a year ago. Cash provided by operating activities was CAD 793 million against CAD 648 million a year ago. The company is maintaining full year 2013 adjusted earnings guidance target range of CAD 1.74 to CAD 1.90 per share.
Enbridge Inc. announced that it has entered into a terminal services agreement with ConocoPhillips Canada Resources Corp. and Total E&P Canada Ltd. to expand existing infrastructure at the Enbridge Cheecham Terminal to accommodate incremental bitumen production from Surmont's Phase 2 expansion. The approximately $0.3 billion expansion is expected to come into service in two phases through the fourth quarter 2014 and first quarter of 2015. Enbridge will construct two new 450,000 barrel blend tanks and convert an existing tank from blend to diluent service, install receipt and distribution manifolds to facilitate transfers to Enbridge's Waupisoo Pipeline and upgrade associated measurement equipment. Enbridge brought a full expansion of the Waupisoo Pipeline into service in 2012 to, in part, serve the requirements of the growing production from the Surmont oil sands project.
Enbridge Inc.'s Board of Directors has declared a quarterly dividend of $0.315 per common share, payable on June 1, 2013 to shareholders of record on May 15, 2013.
