Fiat S.p.A. and the regional authorities of Piedmont (Italy) have reached an agreement on a new, temporary lay-off scheme for workers at its Mirafiori and Grugliasco plants in and around Turin (Italy). Around 5,315 staff at Mirafiori and 315 staff at Grugliasco will be affected. The accord has now been signed by the FIM, UILM, FISMIC, UGL, and Associazione Quadri unions. However, the FIOM has decided not to agree to the measures, having deemed the procedure "unusual".
Fiat S.p.A. reported earnings results for the first quarter of 2013. Group revenues were EUR 19.8 billion for the quarter down 3% year-over-year flat at constant exchange and increases for Latin America. Group net profit was EUR 31 million for the quarter down from EUR 262 million in first quarter 2012 driven principally by the reduction in trading profit. There was a loss of EUR 83 million attributable to owners of the parent compared with the EUR 35 million for first quarter 2012. Net industrial debt of March 31, 2013 was EUR 7.1 billion up from EUR 6.5 billion at year end 2012 and total available liquidity increased EUR 21.3 billion mainly due to positive exchange rate impact on the U.S. dollar. In the quarter Group EBIT was EUR 603 million, EUR 232 million decrease mainly reflected lower trading profit in NAFTA and LATAM with earnings from mass-market decreasing 36% and NAFTA to EUR 400 million and 46% in LATAM or 21% excluding the effect of EUR 59 million unusual charge related to currency devaluation in Venezuela. Consolidated EBITDA contributed positively for EUR 1.6 billion fully offset by capital expenditure for the quarter of EUR 1.6 billion. The company confirms 2013 guidance with revenues expected to be in the EUR 88 billion to EUR 92 billion range, trading profit from EUR 4 billion to EUR 4.5 billion, net profit in the EUR 1.2 billion to EUR 1.5 billion range and net industrial debt of around EUR 7 billion.
