First American Financial Corporation, through its subsidiaries, provides financial services. It operates through Title Insurance and Services, and Specialty Insurance segments. The Title Insurance and Services segment issues title insurance policies, and related products and services on residential and commercial property. This segment also offers closing and/or escrow services; accommodates tax-deferred exchanges of real estate; maintains, manages, and provides access to title plant records and images; and provides banking, trust, and investment advisory services, as well as provides products, services, and solutions involving the use of real property related data designed to mitigate risk or otherwise facilitate real estate transactions. It offers its products through a network of direct operations and agents in 49 states and in the District of Columbia, as well as in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other countries. The Specialty Insurance segment provides property and casualty insurance, including coverage to residential homeowners and renters for liability losses and typical hazards, such as fire, theft, vandalism, and other types of property damage in 46 states. It also sells home warranty products comprising residential service contracts that cover residential systems, such as heating and air conditioning systems, and certain appliances against failures that occur as the result of normal usage during the coverage period in 39 states and the District of Columbia; and offers auto insurance products. This segment markets its property and casualty insurance products through direct distribution channels, including cross-selling through its existing closing-service activities, as well as through a network of independent brokers. The company also provides loan quality analytics, decision support tools, and loan review services for the mortgage industry. The company was incorporated in 2008 and is based in Santa Ana, California.
