Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A., together with its subsidiaries, is primarily engaged in the environmental services water, and infrastructure businesses in Spain and internationally. The company offers environmental services, such as collection and treatment of solid waste, and cleaning of public streets and sewer systems. It also provides integral water management services, including collection, treatment, and distribution of water for human consumption; wastewater collection, filtering, and treatment; and design, construction, operation, and maintenance of water infrastructure for municipal, industrial, agricultural, and other services. In addition, the company is engaged in the infrastructure construction projects, building construction, and related activities comprising motorways, freeways and other roads, tunnels, bridges, hydraulic construction works, ports, airports, residential property developments, housing units, non-residential building construction, lighting, industrial air conditioning and heating systems, and environmental restoration, etc. Further, it is involved in the operation of quarries and mineral deposits; manufacture of cement, lime, plaster, and related pre-manufactured products; and production of concrete. The company was founded in 1900 and is based in Madrid, Spain.

Inmobiliaria Carso, S.A. de C.V. to express interest in Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A. (CATS:FCC), reported Financial Times. Carso is in exclusive talks with Esther Koplowitz, largest shareholder of Fomento de Construcciones, to buy the rights to shares in the company’s upcoming €1 billion capital increase.

Spain's FCC In Talks With Carlos Slim

Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A. (CATS:FCC) is in talks with Carlos Slim for a stake. Esther Koplowitz, biggest shareholder of FCC said, "Exclusive negotiations with the George Soros fund have ended without an agreement and talks are instead ongoing with Slim's group."

Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A. Reports Earnings Results for the Third Quarter of Fiscal 2014; Revises Earnings Guidance for the Full Year 2014; Reports Impairment for the Third Quarter of 2014

Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, S.A. reported earnings results for the third quarter of 2014. For the period, the company reported turnover came down by 6.1% on a year-on-year basis, down to EUR 4.59 billion as a result of the reduction in construction work in Spain. EBITDA improved almost 20%, reaching EUR 598 million and that the EBITDA margin is 13%. The gross operating profit is EUR 598 million, a 19% improvement and an improvement of 2.8 points in operating margin. This increase in profitability is due mainly to the savings and the different restructuring measures. The company recorded losses of EUR 788 million at the end of the third quarter. The net operating result (EBIT) resulted in a negative balance of EUR 461 million, due to covering the impact of the provisions for amount of EUR 114 million, linked to the value adjustment of real estate assets and various risks in the head of the group, and the impairment of EUR 655 million on the material assets of FCC Environment, the Environment subsidiary in the United Kingdom. The result before taxes, EUR 859 million negative, resulted in fiscal credits of EUR 132 million. Net financial debt at the end of the third quarter was EUR 6.430 billion. For the quarter, the company reported an impairment of EUR 655 million in the material assets of the subgroup, FCC Environment, in the U.K. This impairment is caused by the drop in waste volumes going to landfills as a result of the increase in landfill tax, which is now GBP 80 per tonne. For the full year of 2014, the company expects EBITDA increase to be between 10% and 15% instead of 20% forecast at the beginning of the year.
