It operates 38 bakeries, as well as sells its products through DSD route delivery system to retail and foodservice clients in the New England, Florida, and California. The Warehouse Delivery segment produces snack cakes, breads, rolls, and frozen breads for national retail, foodservice, vending, and co-pack clients. It operates 8 bakeries. This segment markets its products under the Mrs. Freshley’s, European Bakers, Broad Street Bakery, Leo’s Foods, Juarez, and Tesoritos brands. The company was formerly known as Flowers Industries and changed its name to Flowers Foods, Inc. in 2001. Flowers Foods, Inc. was founded in 1919 and is headquartered in Thomasville, Georgia.

Flowers Foods Announces Executive Promotions

Flowers Foods announced several appointments in keeping with the company's management succession plan. The following promotions are effective immediately: Bradley K. Alexander named executive vice president and chief operating officer of company. D. Keith Wheeler named president of Flowers Bakeries, the company's direct-store-delivery (DSD) operating segment. Thomas E. Wilson named senior vice president of Flowers Bakeries' West Coast region. Mr. Alexander has held various positions in sales, operations and marketing, including bakery president and vice president of sales and marketing. Mr. Wheeler experience with the company includes operational, accounting, and sales positions, including regional controller, vice president of operations, director of strategic planning, and bakery president. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Wheeler served as senior vice president for the company's West Coast region. Mr. Wilson career in the baking industry began in 1979 and he has held leadership positions in sales and operations, including vice president of sales and marketing, executive vice president, and bakery president, the position he held prior to his current appointment. With the new appointment, Mr. Alexander is responsible for company operations, including the DSD and warehouse segments, as well as supply chain, marketing and product innovation. In his new role, Mr. Wheeler provides direction for Flowers Bakeries' six DSD sales regions.

Flowers Foods Issues Allergy Alert and Voluntary Recall on Limited Quantity of Sunbeam, Bunny, Flowers Deli, and Ingles Bar-B-Q Bread Sold in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Tennessee

Flowers Foods is voluntarily recalling the following brands of Bar-B-Q bread because they may contain undeclared milk. People who have allergies to dairy products run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to date. Sunbeam Bar-B-Q Bread, UPC 0 77633 05303 1, code date of JUL 3 180 172; Bunny Bar-B-Q Bread, UPC 0 71025 01500 3, code date of JUL 3 180 172; Flowers Deli Bar-B-Q Bread, UPC 0 72250 01866 1, code date of JUL 3 180 172; Ingles Pull-Apart Bar-B-Q Bread, UPC 0 86854 01543 8, code date of JUL 3 180 172. The recalled product involves the following distribution: To retail stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Tennessee. The recall was initiated after Flowers discovered that product containing milk was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. Less than 3,000 loaves of bread are involved in the recall. Much of the product involved has been contained within Flowers' distribution system. Out of an abundance of caution, Flowers issued the voluntary recall and is advising its trade customers to withdraw this product from sale. The company is in the process of recovering the product involved and is in contact with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to ensure the continued safety of those consumers who may be impacted by this issue. The company also has reported the recall to FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education).

Industrial Bakery In Biddeford Up For Sale

Flowers Foods, Inc. (NYSE:FLO) is selling the plant and eight other bakeries and 21 depots across the country. The bakery is up for sale for $8.45 million. A spokeswoman for Flower Foods told the Press Herald the Biddeford bakery and the eight others don't fit the company's strategic growth plan.
