Fomento Económico Mexicano, S.A.B. de C.V. reported consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the group reported total revenues increased 14.4% compared to second quarter of 2013 to MXN 70.956 billion in second quarter of 2014 driven by Coca-Cola FEMSA and FEMSA Comercio. Income from operations increased 9.0% compared to second quarter of 2013 to MXN 7.953 billion in second quarter of 2014. Net consolidated income decreased 12.1% compared to second quarter of 2013 to MXN 4.463 billion in 2Q14, mainly as a result of higher financing expenses related to bonds issued recently by Coca-Cola FEMSA, a decrease in FEMSA’s reported 20% participation in Heineken’s results, and a tough comparison related to a foreign exchange gain at FEMSA in second quarter of 2013. These effects were partially offset by the growth in income from operations. Capital expenditures amounted to MXN 3.951 billion in second quarter of 2014, reflecting slightly incremental investments at Coca-Cola FEMSA and FEMSA Comercio. For the first half of 2014, consolidated total revenues increased 14.4% compared to the same period in 2013 to MXN 136.463 billion driven by Coca-Cola FEMSA and FEMSA Comercio. These effects were partially offset by the growth in income from operations. CAPEX was MXN 7.014 billion against MXN 6.867 billion a year ago.
