freescale semiconductor ltd (FSL) Key Developments

Freescale Semiconductor Introduces 15 Watt Qi-Compliant Wireless Charging Solution

Freescale Semiconductor extended its wireless charging portfolio by introducing 15 W Qi-compliant wireless charging solution. The solution paves the way for ultra-fast wireless recharging for a variety of larger mobile devices including tablets, large-screen smart phones and portable industrial and medical equipment. Delivering 3x the power of common 5 W charging solutions, Freescale 15 W wireless offering provides efficient charging of larger form factor devices with higher capacity batteries, while enabling faster charging of smaller form factor devices by delivering higher power. Freescales new 15 W portfolio includes transmit and receive ICs complemented with flexible enablement technologies to speed the creation of wireless charging systems. Additionally, the new solution supports several industry standards, including the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA). This targeted solution includes two 15 W ICs: the WPR1516 receiver chip and accompanying MWCT1012 transmitter chip. Developers can get to production quickly by using available corresponding firmware libraries, which provide the core functionality required to implement wireless charging systems. The solution also includes an advanced application programming interface that can be utilized to modify or adjust library functionality, allowing for the addition of custom application code and a highly tailored and differentiated end-product. Freescales new 15 W wireless charging solution is planned for availability in first quarter 2015.

Freescale Semiconductor Introduces High Thermal and Wideband Performance GaN Device with 125 Watts Continuous Wave (CW) GaN-On-SiC Transistor

Freescale Semiconductor introduced the high thermal and wideband performance GaN device with a 125 watts continuous wave (CW) GaN-on-SiC transistor. By offering extended operational bandwidth, the new MMRF5014H is ideal for wideband amplifiers in scientific equipment, as well as in military communications products for the U.S. defense sector including jammers, radar implementations and electronic warfare systems. Performance of 100 W CW power over 200-2,500 MHz bandwidth with greater than 12 dB gain across the band is demonstrated in the available reference circuit. The transistor is designed to deliver 58% efficiency and to easily achieve power levels in excess of 125 W in narrower band applications. In addition, the device delivers best-in-class thermal performance of less than 1deg C/W and offers extreme VSWR ruggedness of 20:1. This new GaN product is the first of several that Freescale plans to introduce to help customers push the current boundaries of performance while addressing the stringent size, weight and power (SWaP) requirements of the defense industry and other markets. The MMRF5014H is included in Freescale's Product Longevity Program, as are other RF products in the military portfolio. Additionally, Freescale military RF products are supported by a dedicated team of experts to assist customers through all stages of device selection, implementation and system development.
