It also offers origination and distribution units for structured credit and debt products, debt capital markets, project finance, and asset and capital structuring; and provides equity custodial and related services, which include equity derivatives, exchange-traded derivatives, cash equities, global custody and securities services, and equity research. The company serves individuals, private banking clients, small and medium-sized enterprises, government institutions, and corporate and institutional customers. As of December 31, 2013, it had 1,234 offices and 5,264 ATMs in Mexico. The company was formerly known as Grupo Financiero Santander, S.A.B. de C.V. and changed its name to Grupo Financiero Santander México, S.A.B. de C.V. in August 2012. The company was founded in 1991 and is headquartered in Mexico City, Mexico. Grupo Financiero Santander México, S.A.B. de C.V. is a subsidiary of Banco Santander, S.A.

Grupo Financiero Santander Mexico, S.A.B. de C.V. announced unaudited earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net interest income of MXN 8,993 million compared to MXN 8,636 million a year ago. Net interest income after provisions for loan losses was MXN 5,524 million compared to MXN 5,832 million a year ago. Operating income was MXN 3,958 million compared to MXN 5,206 million a year ago. Operating income before taxes was MXN 3,975 million compared to MXN 5,221 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations was MXN 3,259 million compared to MXN 4,669 million a year ago. Net income was MXN 3,259 million compared to MXN 4,717 million a year ago. Adjusted net income (before taxes) was MXN 3,259 million compared to MXN 4,717 million a year ago. Adjusted net income was MXN 3,259 million compared to MXN 4,467 million a year ago. Interest income increased 0.2%, or MXN 34 million, year on year to MXN 13,642 million in first quarter from MXN 13,608 million in a year ago. This was primarily driven by growth in the Bank's business volume, which resulted in a MXN 464 million, or 4.6%, increase in interest income from the loan portfolio. Operating income was decline of MXN 1,248 million, or 24.0%, mainly due to unusually high trading gains in first quarter of 2013 as well as higher provisions in first quarter of 2014 driven by the introduction of the expected losses methodology in the commercial loan portfolio. Net cash provided by operating activities was MXN 5,067 million. Payments for acquisition of property, furniture and fixtures were MXN 119 million. Payments for acquisition of intangible assets were MXN 173 million. Net income per share was MXN 0.48 against MXN 0.69 a year ago. ROAE was 13.5% compared to 18.8% a year ago. ROAA was 1.5% compared to 2.3% a year ago. Core revenues were MXN 12,416 million compared to MXN 11,854 million a year ago.
