Google, Rockstar to Settle Litigation

Google has agreed to settle litigation with patent consortium Rockstar, although terms of the deal were not disclosed in a court filing. Rockstar outbid Google and paid $4.5 billion in 2011 for thousands of former Nortel Network patents as the networking products supplier went bankrupt. In October 2013, Rockstar sued Google and several handset manufacturers whose phones operate on Google's Android operating system. Rockstar accused Google of infringing seven Nortel patents, all related to search engine technology. Google and Rockstar have agreed to settle all matters in controversy between the parties. Google and Rockstar have reached a term sheet, which will be reduced to a definitive agreement over the next few weeks.

TF1 Reaches Out of Court Settlement with Google

TF1 and Google's YouTube video platform have reached an out of court settlement to end a seven-year dispute. Google reportedly agreed to pay EUR 1 million to TF1 in the settlement expected to be announced officially on 19 November when the Appeals Court closes the case. TF1 sued YouTube at the Paris Commercial Court in 2008 for not removing copyrighted content from the platform, seeking over EUR 150 million in damages. The Commercial Court referred the matter to the appeals court where TF1 reduced the damages sought to EUR 141 million. The settlement will see TF1 launch channels on YouTube, with existing programmes and original content. The two partners will share advertising revenue.
