General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) is examining a range of strategic options that could include an initial public offering of some parts of the business, GE Capital, Jeff Immelt, Chief Executive Officer of GE, said on May 22, 2013. Immelt set a new target to cut the assets that will be held by GE Capital at the end of 2014 to less than half their size in the run-up to the 2008 financial crisis. "We think the timing is good to be thinking strategically," Immelt said during an annual Electrical Products Group conference in Florida. "We think there's a lot of techniques to do it," he added.
General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) is considering an initial public offering of the consumer finance unit. Jeffrey Immelt, Chief Executive Officer of General Electric, said, "In financial services, putting things up for sale with the assumption that a bank would buy it has been a fool’s journey. So the only way you’ve been able to think about this is by thinking about IPOs. The market, I think, is open. If we miss it, that’s on me." The cash from offering will be used to buy back more shares. Jeffrey Immelt said, “The businesses that GE may exit are great assets, fantastic, but we think our commercial finance assets are very strong and very consistent with our competitive advantage. The capital markets are very receptive to IPOs and a lot of different technologies today, so you basically have as good a setting as you could possibly have." General Electric share increased 0.8% to $23.86 at the market close in New York.
The News report quoted financial market sources as saying that Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (TSE:8306) had offered to acquire General Electric Company’s (NYSE:GE) 25.3% stake in Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited (SET:BAY) for THB 40 per share. According to the news report, the sale would be worth almost THB 62 billion. Others bidders include Khazanah Nasional Berhad. Shares in Bank of Ayudhya rose by 0.7% at THB 36 after the local newspaper reported about Mitsubishi’s offer.
