The Hillshire Brands Company engages in the manufacture and marketing of meat-centric food solutions for the retail and foodservice markets worldwide. The company’s packaged meat and frozen bakery products include hot dogs and corn dogs, breakfast sausages, breakfast sandwiches and bowls, dinner sausages, premium deli and luncheon meats, cooked hams and frozen pies, cakes, cheesecakes, and other desserts. It also offers meat and bakery products comprising beef and turkey, pastries, and muffins; and frozen desserts, fruits, ice-creams, and savory products. The company offers its products primarily under the Jimmy Dean, Ball Park, Hillshire Farm, State Fair, Sara Lee, and Chef Pierre brand names, as well as artisanal brands, such as Aidells and Gallo Salame. It sells its products to supermarkets, warehouse clubs, national chains, foodservice wholesalers, business agents and representatives, contract caterers, healthcare and educational institutions, distributors, restaurants, hospitals, and other institutions through direct sales force and outside brokers. The company was formerly known as Sara Lee Corporation and changed its name to The Hillshire Brands Company in June 2012. The Hillshire Brands Company was founded in 1939 and is based in Downers Grove, Illinois.

Hillshire Brands Company's The Bistro Gourmet Bakery launched an expanded Bistro Collection line of gourmet cakes, each hand-crafted and individually portioned for operational ease. The ten-product thaw-and-serve gourmet cake collection includes five new cakes and will be supported by a marketing campaign, including an easily accessible mobile application. The new flavors, developed based on consumer preferences, include: Chocolate Raspberry Duet Cake; Harvest Caramel Apple Cake; Lemon Mousse Melody Cake; Roasted Pistachio Mascarpone Cake and Chocolate Peanut Butter Thunder(R) Cake made with Reese's(R) Peanut Butter Cups. The Bistro Collection Gourmet Cakes also include: Chocolate Truffle Mousse Cake; Flourless Chocolate Indulgence Cake; Tiramisu Cake; World's Greatest Carrot Cake and World's Greatest Chocolate Cake. The Hillshire Brands Company announced that David W. Stahl, 48, will become chief information officer, effective May 28, 2013. Stahl will oversee all IT strategy and planning activities and will provide executive leadership and direction for IT. He will report to Maria Henry, chief financial officer. Most recently, Stahl was vice president, information technology at Tellabs where he was responsible for all aspects of the company's global IT operations. He led an IT transformation program which resulted in improved service levels, lower costs, and higher operational performance of the IT function. During his tenure at Tellabs he held positions of increasing responsibility from director, global quality assurance to vice president, corporate quality and customer satisfaction.
