HTC Corporation reported unaudited consolidated results for second quarter ended June 30, 2014. For the period, the company reported revenue was TWD 65.06 billion and net profit before tax was TWD 2.76 billion. Operating profit was TWD 2.43 billion, and net profit after tax was TWD 2.26 billion, or TWD 2.74 per share.

HTC Closes its Mexican Operations

HTC closed its Mexican operations, effectively exiting Latin America. Reports surfaced that HTC had closed its Mexican office in August 2013, but continued to manage its Latin American business from an office in Miami. The company will continue to import its phones through US mobile services and solutions distribution company BrightStar. HTC closed its Brazilian operations and the left the country's market in June 2012, after failing to match sales with competitors LG, Nokia and Samsung.

Gemalto's Android Patent Lawsuit Rejected

Gemalto NV announced that the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit rejected its patent claim relating to the Android smartphone operating platform. Gemalto filed a suit in the United States in October 2010 against Google, Motorola, Samsung and HTC, alleging their Android applications infringed on its patents.
