IdaCorp, Inc. Reports Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Year Ended December 31, 2013; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Year 2014

IdaCorp, Inc. reported earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2013. For the fourth quarter, the company reported net income attributable to the company of $27.6 million, or $0.55 per diluted share, compared to $17.9 million, or $0.36 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2012. The results were results were further enhanced by an $11.6 million pre-tax gain on a sale of marketable securities recognized in the fourth quarter of 2013. For the year 2013, the company reported net income attributable to the company of $182.4 million, or $3.64 per diluted share, compared to $173.0 million, or $3.46 per diluted share, in 2012. The company's 2013 and 2012 earnings reflect the retrospective adoption of a recently issued accounting standard, which increased net income by $5.1 million and $4.3 million, respectively. Higher rates implemented during 2012, primarily related to the full year inclusion in base rates of the Langley Gulch power plant, increased operating income for 2013 by $30.1 million compared to 2012. The impact of the increased rates was partially offset by decreased AFUDC and increased depreciation expense, both associated with the full year inclusion of the Langley Gulch plant in base rates. The increases in operating income were slightly offset by the sharing mechanism under the December 2011 regulatory settlement agreement, with a combined $2.3 million higher pension expense and provision for revenue sharing recorded in 2013 compared to 2012. Operating income was up $52 million compared to 2012 due to $30 million in new revenue, primarily related to inclusion of the Langley Gulch power plant in rates for a full year, $18 million from increased energy sales due to weather-related factors and nearly $9 million from customer growth. Cash flow from operations in 2013 was $305.5 million, an increase of $56.3 million over 2012. The majority of the increase results from a $48 million improvement in income before income taxes. Total operating revenues were $1.25 billion, compared to $1.08 billion for the year ended December 31, 2012. Income before income taxes was $254.52 million, compared to $206.99 million for the year ended December 31, 2012. For the year 2014, the company expects earnings guidance in the range of $3.40 to $3.55 per diluted share. Idaho Power capital expenditures, excluding AFUDC expected to be $280 million - $295 million.
