Infinity Property and Casualty Corp. reported unaudited earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013. For the quarter, net written premium was $373.0 million against $344.2 million a year ago. Revenue was $330.8 million against $287.4 million a year ago. Earnings before income taxes were $12.1 million against $5.5 million a year ago. Net earnings were $8.7 million or $0.74 diluted per share against $4.3 million or $0.35 diluted per share a year ago. Book value per share was $56.94. Net investment income was $8.3 million compared to $9.7 million for the same period a year ago. Operating earnings were $6.2 million or $0.53 diluted per share against $4.3 million or $0.36 diluted per share a year ago. Return on equity was 5.3% against 2.6% a year ago. Operating earnings were higher in the first quarter of 2013 compared with the first quarter of 2012 primarily as a result of improved underwriting results. The company affirmed earnings guidance for the year 2013. The company is affirming its operating earnings guidance of $2.90 - $3.40 per share. The guidance assumes gross written premium growth between 5.0% - 8.0% compared with the prior year, and an accident year combined ratio, which excludes development on prior accident year loss and loss adjustment expense reserves, between 96.5% and 97.5%.
