Investors Real Estate Trust, a real estate investment trust (REIT), engages in the ownership and operation of income-producing real estate properties in the United States. It owns multi-family residential properties and commercial office, medical, industrial, and retail properties located primarily in the upper midwest states of Minnesota and North Dakota. As of April 30, 2008, the company operated a real estate portfolio of 72 multi-family residential; 65 office; 48 medical; 17 industrial; and 33 retail properties. Investors Real Estate Trust has elected to be taxed as a REIT under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. As a REIT, the trust is not subject to federal corporate income taxes, if it distributes at least 90% of its taxable income to its shareholders. The company was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in Minot, North Dakota with additional offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Omaha, Nebraska; and Kansas City, Kansas, and St. Louis, Missouri.

Investors Real Estate Trust reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended April 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported total revenue of $66.983 million compared to $64.184 million for the same period a year ago. Loss from continuing operations was of $34.522 million or $0.29 per basic and diluted share compared to income of $7.999 million or $0.04 per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. Net loss available to common share holders was of $31.420 million or $0.29 per basic and diluted share compared to income of $7.136 million or $0.07 per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. Funds from operations applicable to common shares was $17.556 million or $0.14 per share compared to $22.116 million or $0.19 per share for the same period a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $34.591 million compared to $37.281 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted funds from operations applicable to common shares and units of $13.822 million or $0.11 per basic and diluted share compared to $14.105 million or $0.12 per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. Operating loss was $20.939 million against operating income of $22.451 million a year ago. For the year, the company reported total revenue of $265.482 million compared to $248.058 million for the same period a year ago. Loss from continuing operations was of $23.990 million or $0.28 per basic and diluted share compared to income of $20.677 million or $0.09 per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. Net loss available to common share holders was of $24.688 million or $0.23 per basic and diluted share compared to income of $16.301 million or $0.17 per basic and diluted share for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $33.116 million against $81.083 million a year ago. The company reported impairment of real estate of $37.768 million for the fourth quarter of 2014.
