Investors Real Estate Trust, a real estate investment trust (REIT), engages in the ownership and operation of income-producing real estate properties in the United States. It owns multi-family residential properties and commercial office, medical, industrial, and retail properties located primarily in the upper midwest states of Minnesota and North Dakota. As of April 30, 2008, the company operated a real estate portfolio of 72 multi-family residential; 65 office; 48 medical; 17 industrial; and 33 retail properties. Investors Real Estate Trust has elected to be taxed as a REIT under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. As a REIT, the trust is not subject to federal corporate income taxes, if it distributes at least 90% of its taxable income to its shareholders. The company was founded in 1970 and is headquartered in Minot, North Dakota with additional offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Omaha, Nebraska; and Kansas City, Kansas, and St. Louis, Missouri.

Investors Real Estate Trust reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended July 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported total revenue of $68.630 million compared to $65.098 million a year ago. Operating income was $16.767 million compared to $16.992 million a year ago. Loss from continuing operations was $0.199 million compared to income from continuing operations of $2.606 million a year ago. Net loss available to the common shareholders was $3.030 million compared to net income available to the common shareholders of $0.199 million a year ago. FFO decreased to $18.9 million or $0.14 per basic and diluted share from $19.7 million or $0.16 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Adjusted funds from operations applicable to common shares and units were $15.645 million or $0.12 per basic and diluted share compared to $13.700 million or $0.11 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $35.999 million compared to $36.357 million a year ago. For the first quarter ended July 31, 2014, the company reported impairment of real estate investments of $2.320 million.
