intl rectifier corp (IRF) Key Developments

International Rectifier Introduces New IRGP47xx Family of IGBTs

International Rectifier expanded its portfolio of insulated-gate bipolar transistors, or IGBTs, with the introduction of the new 650V IRGP47xx family reportedly optimized for fast switching applications including solar inverters, welding equipment, industrial motors, induction heating and uninterruptible power supplies, or UPS. Ranging from 15A to 90A, the IRGP47xx family of IGBTs utilizes trench thin-wafer technology to reduce conduction and switching losses to deliver increased system efficiency. Available as discrete devices or co-packaged with a soft recovery low Qrr diode, the new IGBTs are optimized for ultra-fast switching (8KHz-30KHz), offering an increased short circuit rating of 6µs, and positive VCE(ON) temperature coefficient for easy paralleling. The higher breakdown voltage provides extra reliability during extreme weather variations and AC-line instability, and eliminates the requirement for voltage suppression devices.

International Rectifier Corporation Introduces AUIRFN8459 and AUIRFN8458 40V Automotive-Qualified COOLiRFET Power MOSFETs

International Rectifier Corporation announced the introduction of the AUIRFN8459 and AUIRFN8458 40V automotive-qualified COOLiRFET power MOSFETs that offer benchmark on-state resistance (RDS(on)) for automotive applications requiring compact size and high current performance including pump motor control and automotive body control. The AUIRFN8459 and AUIRFN8458 are the first in a family of automotive-qualified 5x6mm dual PQFN power MOSFETs based on IR's most advanced COOLiRFET(TM) 40V trench technology. The AUIRFN8459 achieves ultra-low 5.9mOhm Rds(on) per channel benchmark performance and 50A high current carrying capability. The new 5x6mm dual PQFN COOLiRFET(TM) devices also offer a low thermal path to the PCB and significant thermal performance improvement compared to an SO-8 package to deliver higher efficiency, improved power density and overall system level cost savings. IR's automotive MOSFETs are subject to dynamic and static part average testing combined with 100% automated wafer level visual inspection as part of IR's automotive quality initiative targeting zero defects. AEC-Q101 qualification requires that there is no more than a 20% change in Rds(on) after 1,000 temperature cycles of testing. The new device is qualified according to AEC-Q101 standards, features an environmentally friendly, lead-free and RoHS compliant bill of materials. Pricing for the AUIRFN8459TR begins at $0.69 each in 10,000-unit quantities and pricing for the AUIRFN8458TR begins at and begins at $0.48 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Production orders are available immediately. Prices are subject to change.

International Rectifier Corporation's Investor Files Lawsuit to Halt the Proposed Takeover of International Rectifier Corporation by Infineon Technologies AG

The Shareholders Foundation Inc. announced that an investor, who currently holds International Rectifier Corporation (IRF) shares, filed a lawsuit in effort to halt the proposed takeover of International Rectifier Corporation by Infineon Technologies AG for USD 40.00 per share. On August 20, 2014, Infineon Technologies AG and International Rectifier Corporation announced that they have signed an agreement under which Infineon Technologies will acquire International Rectifier for USD 40 per share in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately USD 3 billion. However, the plaintiff claims that the takeover undervalues International Rectifier Corporation and that the process is unfair to IRF investors.
