JG Summit Holdings, Inc. is engaged in branded consumer foods, agro-industrial and commodity food products, property development, hotels, banking and financial services, petrochemicals, air transportation, and power generation businesses. Its Foods, Agro-Industrial, and Commodities segment manufactures snack foods, granulated coffee and pre-mixed coffee, chocolates, candies, biscuits, instant noodles, ice cream and frozen novelties, pasta and tomato-based products, and canned beans. This segment is also involved in raising hogs and chickens; manufacture and distribution of animal feeds, corn products, and vegetable oil; synthesis of veterinary compound; sugar milling and refining; and flour milling. The company’s Air Transportation segment provides air transport services for passengers and cargoes. Its Real Estate and Hotels segment is involved in the ownership, development, leasing, and management of shopping malls and retail developments; ownership and operation of hotels in the Philippines; development, sale, and leasing of office condominium space in office buildings and high rise residential condominiums; development of land into residential subdivisions; sale of subdivision lots and residential houses; and the provision of customer financing. The company’s Petrochemicals segment manufactures polyethylene and polypropylene, polymer grade ethylene and propylene, partially hydrogenated pyrolysis gasoline, and pyrolysis fuel oil. Its Banking segment offers commercial banking services, including deposit-taking, lending, foreign exchange dealing, and fund transfers or remittance servicing. The company’s Other Supplementary segment is engaged in asset management, insurance brokering, foreign exchange, and securities dealing activities. JG Summit Holdings, Inc. operates in the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Vietnam. The company was founded in 1957 and is based in Pasig, the Philippines.

JG Summit Holdings, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2013. For the quarter ended September 30, 2013, total revenue was PHP 35,502,476,002 against PHP 32,140,552,315 for the same period a year ago. Operating income was PHP 4,969,111,924 against PHP 5,124,235,366 a year ago. Income before income tax was PHP 5,092,321,563 against PHP 5,227,364,888 a year ago. Net income attributable to equity holders of the group was PHP 3,212,762,458 against PHP 3,276,411,857 a year ago. Basic and diluted earnings per share were PHP 0.47 against PHP 0.48 a year ago. For the nine months, the company reported income before income tax of PHP 14,967,837,525 against PHP 17,384,459,366 a year ago. Total revenue was PHP 110,903,255,200 against PHP 101,373,026,653 for the same period a year ago. Net income attributable to equity holders of the group was PHP 8,386,566,953 against PHP 10,747,918,742 a year ago. Basic and diluted earnings per share were PHP 1.23 against PHP 1.58 a year ago. JG Summit In Talks To Buy Manila Electric Stake

San Miguel Corp. (PSE:SMC) is in talks to sell stake in Manila Electric Co. (PSE:MER) to JG Summit Holdings, Inc. (PSE:JGS). The companies confirmed that they are in talks. The sale plan comes as the company intends to raise funds for expansion particularly in the power and infrastructure sectors, and settle its debts. On September 25, 2013, Meralco shares fell 0.4% to PHP 276, San Miguel’s share price shot up 1.2% to PHP75.8 while JG Summit’s share price gained 1.3% to PHP38.5. JG Summit stated that talks with San Miguel are underway with respect to its ‘interest in Manila Electric Co.’ The news report mentioned that It wasn't clear from the San Miguel and JG Summit statements whether San Miguel was selling its entire Meralco stake.

JG Summit Holdings, Inc. Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2013

JG Summit Holdings Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2013. Net income attributable to equity holders of the parent company for the second quarter of 2013 only amounted to PHP 310.79 million. The company posted a 31.7% increase in core earnings before taxes of PHP 13.0 billion for the six months ended June 30, 2013, from PHP 9.87 billion for the same period last year. Net income for the six-months ended June 30, 2013 to PHP 5.17 billion from PHP 7.47 billion for the same period in 2012. The 30.8% decrease is mainly due to the 5.2% depreciation of peso during the period as the company recorded a PHP 2.97 billion foreign exchange loss compared to a foreign exchange gain of PHP 1.30 billion for the same period last year. Consolidated EBITDA reached PHP 18.35 billion, a 24.5% increase compared to the same period last year. Consolidated revenues grew 8.9% from PHP 69.23 billion to PHP 75.40 billion due to the strong performance of all subsidiaries, except for the Petrochemical business, with the core businesses posting double-digit percentage growth. Book value per share improved from PHP 22.84 per share as of December 31, 2012 to PHP 24.35 per share as of June 30, 2013.
