Kontron Expands Tried-and-Test Control Cabinet IPC Product Family

Kontron announced the expansion of the KBox IPC series. The new Kontron KBox IPCs have been developed especially for industrial control applications and are highly scalable. The new systems of the KBox family will be available on a long-term basis and can be upgraded with industrial I/Os, Fieldbusses and/or Industrial Ethernet interfaces as needed. Thanks to the modular structure on the basis of company-internal standard component groups, the CPU selection is very flexible and always up to date. Automation providers and OEM customers in the field of mechanical and plant engineering will thus benefit from highly efficient customisation options on the basis of standardised component groups. Apart from the KBox C-101, which has already been introduced, two more compact variants of this high-end IPC will become available in the future. In addition to the Intel Core i5/i7 CPUs of the fourth generation, the KBox C-101 variants now also come with the embedded Celeron CPU 2002E. The KBox C-101 family impresses users especially with its maintenance-free design, which delivers features such as a structure entirely without fan and battery as well as 10 ms hold-up time. KBox C-101, the performance of the entire KBox IPC family, is introduced in the ultra-compact variant KBox C-101-0 without PCIe slots at the front. This variant additionally offers an internal SATA port for HDD/SSD, two internal mSATA slots and three mini PCIe slots. Moreover, like all KBox C-101 versions, the system has three IEEE1588 Gbit Ethernet ports, two USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort, an RS232 interface and an SDCard slot. The third version, the new KBox C-101-1 supplements the portfolio with a PCIe x4 extension slot and, optionally, a removable SSD/HDD at the front. Kontron KBox A-101, which is designed for cost-sensitive automation and industry computing tasks, stands out with its maintenance-free design and a robust, fast SSD. The fanless box PC with the dual-core Intel Atom CPU D2550 comes with the standard interfaces DisplayPort, two Gbit Ethernet ports, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports and one RS232 port. Despite the compact footprint, custom interface layouts are possible via the integrated mini-PCIe slot. Optionally, KBox A-101 is available with CAN bus and two WIFI aerial connections at the back of the housing.

In his last position he acted as EMEA Operations Director for TE Connectivity in Czech Republic. He held several leadership positions at Merix, Celestica, Honeywell, AlliedSignal, Canadian Marconi Co. and Pratt & Whitney Canada in the recent years.

Kontron Introduces New Clinic-BPC B-101 for Clinical Processes

Kontron introduced the new Clinic-BPC B-101 for clinical processes. The system was developed specifically for applications in the medical environment, in particular for use close to patients. The PC stands out due to easy installation and cabling as well as the use of energy-efficient components. The Clinic-BPC B-101 has three LAN ports and flexible DVI and VGA interfaces to enable both existing analogue displays and more modern digital displays to be more easily connected. There is currently a discernible trend for hospitals and clinics to want to specialize more strongly and install high-quality IT for their departments in a very targeted manner. Particularly in monitoring environments, such as intensive care wards, highly productive IT installations are required that stand out due to silent operation and dedicated certification, a says Jens Unrath, Director Business Development Medical at Kontron. IT-based information systems are now indispensable in the medical sector to enable fast action in emergency situations or to monitor patient vital data continuously. In intensive care wards in particular, permanent observation is absolutely essential and needs special installations. Operators and system integrators want hardware systems that offer a reduction in Ethernet cables, enable the connection of several monitors and stand out due to maintenance-free design. The Kontron Clinic-BPC B-101 is specifically designed for use in the medical environment. The new computer is fanless, thereby enabling silent operation, and features three medically isolated LAN ports and, optionally, isolated RS232 interfaces, as well as two independent, external monitor outputs (DVI-I and DVI-D) to enable the simultaneous display of the electronic patient file and the monitoring of vital data. The system was designed in conformity with DIN EN 60601-1 for the particular safety of electronic devices in medical environments. The Clinic-BPC B-101 is maintenance-free on-rotating components, energy-efficient parts, such as mobile Intel® Coreâ ¢ processors, long-lasting hardware and a sealed case. With its integrated Ethernet switch, this box PC can be connected in sequence (daisy chaining) which enables simple cabling in any patientâ s room. As well as a quick SSD, the system also has 4GB of DDR3 RAM and four USB 3.0 ports. The robust plastic case is scratch- and corrosion-proof and resistant to cleaning detergents. It therefore offers long durability and is easy to clean and disinfect. As an option, OEM customers can have their own logo imprinted.
