KDDI Corporation will begin selling four new smartphone models for the upcoming bonus campaign this summer, including the HTC J One, the Japanese version of an internationally renowned model of Taiwanese maker HTC Corp. featuring enhanced sound. The HTC J One, equipped with stereo speakers next to the smartphone's screen, will be sold from early June for about ¥35,000 to buyers signing a two-year contract, said KDDI, the operator of the "au" mobile phone service. The other models are Sony Corp.'s Experia UL, featuring a large and high-resolution screen, Kyocera Corp.'s Urbano model, and Sharp Corp.'s Aquos Phone Serie which enables users to use the phone for about three days when fully charged due to its energy-efficient Igzo screen. All four models are based on the Android operating system of Google Inc. NTT Docomo Inc. is set to launch 10 new models. KDDI will also start in June a phone service for smartphone beginners which customers can call around the clock to ask for advice and instructions about how to use their smartphone. To get access, customers must register for the service, pay an initial charge of ¥3,150 and a monthly fee of ¥399 from the fourth month after subscription.
