Toshiba Corporation (TSE:6502) and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (NYSE:KKR) are among those expected to bid for Panasonic Healthcare Unit of Panasonic Corporation (TSE:6752), financial sources with knowledge of the matter said. Panasonic is looking to raise as much as $1 billion by selling shares in the healthcare unit. Panasonic declined to comment on the sale process. About 10 investment funds, including KKR, Bain Capital, LLC, The Carlyle Group LP (NasdaqGS:CG), TPG Capital Management, CVC Capital Partners Limited and Unison Capital, Inc. are expected to enter bids, the sources said. Representatives of Toshiba and KKR declined to comment. According to the sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because the bidding is not public.
Deutsche Telekom AG (DB:DTE) is planning to sell Scout24 Holding GmbH, Bloomberg reported today, citing sources in the know. Potential investors include Axel Springer AG (DB:SPR), eBay Inc. (NasdaqGS:EBAY), Yahoo! Inc. (NasdaqGS:YHOO), Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (NYSE:KKR), Apax Partners LLP, Advent International Corporation and EQT Partners AB. According to Bloomberg, the potential investors will receive information about Deutsche Telekom's plan for a partial or complete sale of the unit at the start of June 2013. Deutsche Telekom spokesman Andreas Leigers did not comment on the information when contacted by Bloomberg.
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (NYSE:KKR) is seeking to make an investment in Saks Incorporated (NYSE:SKS) and may also push Saks to pursue a combination Neiman Marcus Inc., people with knowledge of the matter said. The deliberations may not lead to a transaction, said one of the people, who asked not to be named as the process is private. Both Saks and Neiman recently hired advisers to explore strategic options including sales, people with knowledge of the matter said this month. Saks hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc. for advice on its options, two people with knowledge of the matter said. Saks's shares rose 13% to $15.50.
