Kemira Oyj operates as a water chemistry company for water-intensive industries. The company operates in four segments: Paper, Municipal and Industrial, Oil and Mining, and ChemSolutions. The Paper segment provides various chemical products and integrated systems for the production of pulp and paper, as well as for the water treatment. The Municipal and Industrial segment offers water treatment chemicals comprising coagulants and flocculants for municipal drinking and waste water treatment plants and industrial waste and process water plants. The ChemSolutions segment offers formic acid, sodium percarbonate, and leather tanning agents, as well as products based on organic acids for feed, farming, leather, detergent, airports, and chemical industries. The company markets its products in Finland, other European Union countries, other European countries, North and South America, Asia, and other countries. Kemira Oyj was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland.

Kemira Oyj reported group earnings results for the first quarter of 2013. For the quarter, the company reported operative EBIT of EUR 42.2 million, which is 9% above the respective quarter in 2012. Operative earnings per share are EUR 0.17. Revenue was EUR 560.9 million against 552.9 million a year ago. Operating profit (EBIT) was EUR 39.2 million against EUR 36.4 million a year ago. Profit before tax was EUR 13.3 million against EUR 36.9 million a year ago. Net profit attributable to equity owners of the parent was EUR 1.8 million against EUR 29.2 million a year ago. Earnings per share basic and diluted were EUR 0.01 against EUR 0.19 a year ago. Net cash generated from operating activities was EUR 40.3 million against EUR 10.4 million a year ago. Capital expenditure was EUR 29.0 million against EUR 19.4 million a year ago. Cash flow from operations per share was EUR 0.27 against EUR 0.07 a year ago. EBITDA was EUR 61.1 million against EUR 62.1 million a year ago. Net profit attributable to the owners of the parent company decreased due to the EUR 23 million write-down related to the divestment of company’s JV Sachtleben shares. Cash flow from operating activities in increased mainly due to changes in net working capital. For 2013, the company expects growth between 0% and 5% versus 2012, with an increased profitability of at least 15%. For 2014, the company expects at least 10% EBITDA margin. For 2016, the company expects to achieve between EUR 2.6 billion and EUR 2.7 billion in revenue, and EBITDA margin of 15%.
Kemira Oyj announced a plan to establish a multifunction Business Service Center in Gdansk, Poland to serve all of Kemira's businesses in the EMEA region. The scope of the new center is planned to include transactional activities of certain support functions. Once fully implemented, the annual cost savings target for the planned support functions reorganization in EMEA is expected to be close to EUR 10 million. The related non- recurring restructuring charges are expected to amount approximately EUR 20 million. The plan to establish a Business Service Center impacts up to 210 current positions in the EMEA region, of which up to 80 are in Finland. Kemira will initiate co-determination negotiations in the countries where the support functions in scope have operations according to each country's local legislation.
