Eastman Kodak Co. Launches New Thermal Printing Plate for Newspapers in Americas

Eastman Kodak Co. has launched the KODAK THERMALNEWS PT Digital Plate, a new thermal printing plate for newspapers in the Americas. The THERMALNEWS PT Plate lets newspaper printers remove the preheat and prewash steps from processing, saving energy, water, and time. The THERMALNEWS PT Plate is the industry's only processed plate available for newspapers that removes both of these steps and reduces power consumption of processing by up to 60% and water consumption by up to 50%. With the same stability, quality, run lengths, and imaging speed as KODAK THERMALNEWS GOLD Digital Plates, the THERMALNEWS PT Plate lets printers cut costs and reduce impact on the environment. Up to 200,000 impressions are possible with the THERMALNEWS PT Plate without preheating while newspapers that require long run lengths have the added flexibility of preheating the plate for runs of up to 350,000 impressions. Printers can decide how they want to process the plate, with preheat or without, and are rewarded with the stability of thermal imaging, high resolutions for AM and FM newspaper printing, and low chemistry consumption. The plate delivers resolutions suitable for premium newspaper printing as well as color printing of flyers, inserts, and related commercial pieces. The THERMALNEWS PT Plate joins the KODAK SONORA NEWS Process Free Plate in Kodak's portfolio of plates that offer newspaper printers the opportunity to reduce environmental impact and related costs. The THERMALNEWS PT Plate was designed for those newspaper printers that want the features of a processed plate plus reduced environmental impact and costs.

Eastman Kodak Company has introduced new computer-to-plate, or CTP, automation capabilities to its existing KODAK TRENDSETTER and KODAK ACHIEVE Platesetter lines. An optional Single Cassette Unit (SCU) is now available as an add-on to these products to allow automated plate loading and unloading of up to 240 plates with slip sheet removal and automatic plate rotation. The units that will benefit from the SCU option include: KODAK TRENDSETTER Q400 Platesetter, KODAK TRENDSETTER Q800 Platesetter, KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS Platesetter, KODAK ACHIEVE T400 Platesetter and the KODAK ACHIEVE T800 Platesetter. With the addition of the SCU option, these modular platesetters are now available in semi-automatic, auto unload, autoloader and single cassette unit configurations. This added layer of automation provides customers with the ability to experience high-quality, reliable plate making while achieving: uninterrupted operation for up to seven and a half hours; reduction of prepress labor with a higher level of automation including paper removal, automatic plate loading and unloading into a processor or stacker; faster time to press; flexible operations with optional trolleys for quick additional capacity including additional plate formats; and the option to bypass automation for maximum uptime.

Kodak Announces Availability of New and Improved KODAK TRILLIAN SP Thermal Plates in Latin America

Kodak has announced that a new formulation of its TRILLIAN SP Thermal Plate will now be available in Latin America. Print service providers in other regions of the world have been utilizing the updated TRILLIAN SP Plates to enjoy elite levels of productivity, efficiency and total-cost effectiveness, as well as a substantial reduction in chemistry compared to previous plate systems from Kodak. While TRILLIAN SP Plates reduce total cost of ownership, they also enable environmental benefits by using significantly less chemistry. In addition, printers can eliminate preheat ovens and potentially postbake ovens, even for lengthy jobs in harsh chemical environments. Over the last several years, Kodak has improved the stability and performance of TRILLIAN SP Plates, and with the success seen in other regions, is now expanding the optimized formulation and improved chemistry system to the Latin America Region. TRILLIAN SP Plates are widely compatible with existing CTP and processing equipment such as the KODAK TRENDSETTER, MAGNUS and ACHIEVE Platesetters, as well as enabling long, stable and clean chemical cycles with easy processor cleaning. TRILLIAN SP Plates are ideal for a variety of applications, including small and large commercial sheetfed and commercial publication applications, certain heatset web, offset packaging and UV print applications.
