Koninklijke KPN N.V. reported earnings results for the first quarter of 2013. For the period, the company reported net profit stood at €138 million ($180 million), down from €306 million for the same period last year. Sales fell by 8.8% to €2.91 billion, hit by tough competition, the sale of KPN's computer services supplier Getronics and growing use of Internet services such as Skype and WhatsApp for voice and text communication. CapEx was €75 million, following an increase in customer-driven investments such as handsets and TV activations and higher mobile network investments in The Netherlands to support the upgrade of 2G mobile network combined with the rollout of 4G. The company would pay no dividend in 2013 or 2014 because of a €3 billion rights issue. The company expects EBITDA margin to improve in the second half of the year 2013.
