kagara ltd (KZL) Key Developments

Kagara Put Into Liquidation

Kagara Ltd. has gone into liquidation, a spokesman for FTI Consulting, the administrator for Kagara, confirmed. "Basically all the actions have been voted on by the creditors. Liquidators are still speaking to a number of interested parties regarding the sale. The issue is for those parties to raise sufficient funds.” the spokesman said.

Cairns Magistrates Court Fines $120,000 to Kagara Limited Following Breaches of the Queensland Environmental Protection Act 1994

Kagara Limited was fined $120,000 in the Cairns Magistrates Court following breaches of the Queensland Environmental Protection Act 1994. The breaches occurred at the Baal Gammon Copper Mine in North Queensland during the 2011/12 wet season, prior to Kagara going into voluntary administration. Following a large rain event, there was unintended overflow of mine affected water into the neighboring Jamie Creek and Walsh River. At the relevant time, the Baal Gammon Copper Mine was operated by Kagara. Kagara no longer operates that mine. Kagara has taken this matter very seriously and has cooperated fully with the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP). As soon as Kagara became aware of the overflow, it proactively took all reasonable and practicable measures to address the circumstances which led to the breaches, independently of any directions from DEHP.

Update On Sale Of Kagara

Kagara Ltd will either be placed in liquidation or have a possible sales deadline extended to December 15, 2013 at a creditors meeting to be held on October 31, 2013. Stefan Dopking of FTI Consulting said, “We are negotiating with one group. The other option is to call in the liquidators.”
