Leap Wireless International, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, provides digital wireless services under the Cricket brand name in the United States. It offers unlimited local and the U.S. long distance services, and text messaging services, as well as mobile Web, 411, navigation, and data back-up services. The company also provides BridgePay, a flexible payment option for customers to use and pay for the company’s Cricket Wireless service; Muve Music, an unlimited music download service for mobile handsets; and Cricket Lifeline, a federal government's Lifeline program, which provides support from the federal universal service fund to subsidize discounted telecommunications services for qualified low-income consumers. In addition, it offers Cricket PAYGo, a pay-as-you-go unlimited prepaid wireless service for customers who prefer the flexibility and control offered by traditional prepaid services; and Cricket Broadband, an unlimited mobile broadband service that allows customers to access the Internet through their computers. Further, the company provides voice and data roaming and wholesale services; and smartphones and feature phones. It sells Cricket devices and services through company owned Cricket retail stores and Internet, as well as through dealers and distributors, national retail locations, convenience stores, and other indirect outlets. As of December 31, 2012, the company had approximately 5.3 million customers; and owned wireless licenses covering an aggregate of approximately 136.7 million population and potential customers. Capital expenditures were $26.4 million, compared to $146.3 million for the prior year quarter. For the year 2013, the company expects total capital expenditures to be between $250 million and $300 million, including up to $100 million which may be spent to deploy next-generation LTE network technology. Through 2013, the company expects to introduce up to 5 new 4G LTE-capable Smartphones, including the upcoming Galaxy S 4 later this quarter. The company expects to launch up to 5 additional LTE devices in 2013.
