Deutsche Lufthansa AG, an aviation company, provides passenger transportation and airfreight, as well as downstream services worldwide. The company operates in five segments: Passenger Airline Group, Logistics, MRO, Catering, and IT Services. The Passenger Airline Group segment offers passenger services through a route network comprising 274 destinations in approximately 106 countries. The Logistics segment provides a range of freight transport services for various cargos, including live animals, valuable cargo, mail, dangerous goods, and temperature-sensitive goods; and road feeder services. This segment has a network of 300 destinations in approximately 100 countries. The MRO segment offers maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for civil commercial aircrafts. The Catering segment provides airline catering, and related upstream and downstream in-flight services; in-flight equipment and logistics services; management of onboard service; and in-flight retail, as well as related airport services. The IT Services segment offers consulting and information technology services for the aviation, transport and logistics, industry, media and publishing, energy, healthcare, and tourism industries. This segment is involved in the development and implementation of customized industry solutions, as well as the operation of applications in its own data centers. The company also provides training courses, such as training for pilots and flight attendants, simulator training, emergency and service courses, and various e-learning products; and business travel management solutions in the area of payment and analysis of corporate travel. As of December 31, 2013, it had a fleet of 622 aircrafts with an average age of 11.2 years. Deutsche Lufthansa AG is headquartered in Cologne, Germany.

Lufthansa Talks Fail, Pilots Threaten Strike at Height of Holidays

Lufthansa talks fail, pilots threaten strike at height of holidays Frankfurt Pilots for German airline Lufthansa announced their imminent intent to strike, at the peak of the European summer holidays, after declaring contract talks at an impasse. The most recent work stoppage in April cause 90% of Lufthansa flights to be cancelled, and the airline said its losses were in the tens of millions of dollars. Current talks with the company over pension issues have failed. A union spokesman said stoppages could begin immediately, but promised to give enough notice to avoid leaving passengers stranded at airports.

Lufthansa Group Appoints Myriam Ziesack as the New Head of Communications in Asia/Pacific

Lufthansa Group announced that Myriam Ziesack will take on the position of head of group communications Asia/Pacific and will manage Asian media from Singapore. Myriam Ziesack is currently a press spokesperson at the Swiss International Air Lines in Zurich, will transfer to Singapore and work from mid-October as Head of Group Communications Asia/Pacific. In this position, she will manage the Group’s media work in Asia. She has many years of experience in communications, both from a corporate and agency perspective, as well as a Master’s degree in Communications Management and Leadership.

Lufthansa Group and Austrian Airlines Suspend Flights from Frankfurt and Vienna to Erbil

As a result of the current situation in Iraq, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines will initially suspend flights to and from Erbil up until and including August 11, 2014. Flights to Erbil are operated daily by Austrian Airlines from Vienna and twice a week by Lufthansa from Frankfurt. Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines regret any inconvenience that these short-notice cancellations may cause their customers. The safety of passengers and crews remains the company's utmost priority. The airlines of the Lufthansa Group will continue to make a detour around Iraqi airspace, for example on flights to Asia and the Middle East.
