Lenovo Announces a New Alliance with VMware to Deliver Purpose-Built Software-Defined Data Center Solutions

Lenovo announced plans for broad collaboration and partnership with VMware to help clients fully realize the benefits of a software-defined data center by delivering compelling new IT infrastructure solutions for private and hybrid cloud, end user computing, and virtualization. This alliance extends the 16 year development relationship between System x and VMware, which has produced a number of innovations including the first VMware embedded hypervisor and broadens the alliance to include the full range of Lenovo's expanded server business. Software-defined data center technologies extend the concept of server virtualization to networking and storage infrastructure resources, enabling delivery of compute, networking, and storage resources as a service. Lenovo and VMware solutions will bring together Lenovo's servers and networking hardware with VMware infrastructure to help enterprises and service providers simplify the data center, speed application provisioning, and reduce costs. Areas of collaboration include: Private and hybrid cloud infrastructure solutions based on validated end-to-end architectures to provide clients a fast path to an optimal environment, and integration between Lenovo server and networking hardware, and resource management capabilities, with VMware vRealize Suite(TM) for rapid provisioning of systems and services; Lenovo is a top-of-rack networking development partner for VMware NSX(TM), and will deliver flexible network virtualization gateway and integrated traffic management solutions, enabling an open, software-defined foundation for agile, flexible, and scalable cloud environments; Elastic, scalable, and resilient Software Defined Storage infrastructure solutions based on a wide range of Lenovo servers and VMware Virtual SAN(TM) software in simple-to-deploy configurations to suit a broad range of data storage, performance, and budget requirements; Enhanced performance of end-user virtual desktop services through Lenovo eXFlash technology, which is a server-based storage solution providing extremely low latency, coupled with VMware Horizon(R) virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) platform; Joint solution marketing and enablement of the companies' business partner and service provider channels.

Lenovo Announces All-In-One Modular Thin Clients to Expand End-to-End Enterprise Solutions

Lenovo announced new thin clients, expanding its end-to-end enterprise solutions portfolio with new thin clients. On display at VMWorld in Barcelona, the new Lenovo ThinkCentre M73 Tiny and M53 Tiny combined with the ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One will offer customers the freedom of a thin client and monitor setup with the compact benefits of an All-in-One form factor. The recently announced ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One has a 23-inch monitor that includes the best an AiO offers: all the ports needed, optional Optical Disk Drive, customizable stand, and full HD resolution. The clever part is the system's "modular" design that works with Lenovo’s latest ThinkCentre Tiny product portfolio. The Tiny M73 and M53 thin clients, which will also be available separately, are attached to the back of the monitor unit through a hassle-free tool-less process allowing for easy and cost effective future upgrades without needing to replace the display. Thin client solutions offer lower capital investments and can reduce management and maintenance costs. They are highly configurable stateless devices with low power consumption, which boost reliability and can save significant costs when compared to traditional desktops. Security risks are also virtually eliminated as all data resides on the network, not the thin client. The ThinkCentre M73 and M53 solution includes a remote power up option with a supported keyboard and the flexible mounting configurations of the ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One make best use of desk space. Lenovo’s ThinkCentre M73 and M53 thin clients offer customers a choice of a flexible Linux-based thin client operating system (LeTOS) or Windows Embedded Standard 7. Developed in collaboration with Devon IT, a worldwide leader of thin client solutions, the products also feature Lenovo Terminal Manager (LTM) software that is effective, secure and easy to use management software helping IT managers to easily create, deploy and manage their virtual desktop infrastructure. The ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One modular display will be available during October, starting at approximately $279. The ThinkCentre M73 Tiny thin client will be available for the Tiny-in-One solution in November, starting at approximately $299. The ThinkCentre M53 Tiny thin client will be available for the Tiny-in-One solution in December, starting at approximately $249.

Lenovo Announces New YOGA 3 Pro, an Ultra Slim Convertible PC

Lenovo announced the new YOGA 3 Pro, an ultra slim convertible PC. The new 13-in YOGA 3 Pro address users' desires for an extremely stylish device, best-in-breed performance capabilities and the hardware and software adaptability they crave. The YOGA 3 Pro provides this and more: an unbelievably thin and light frame with new watchband hinge design, a QHD+ screen and Harmony, Lenovo's intuitive software that adapts to users' personal preferences as they use the device in its different modes. While the YOGA 2 Pro became synonymous with thin and light, the new YOGA 3 Pro takes this concept even further by shaving 17% from its predecessor's frame at just 12.8 mm thin - thinner than a pencil when opened. The PC also comes in lighter at 1.19kg - 14% less than before - lighter than a bottle of water. he device achieves this incredibly thin and light design due to Lenovo's new watchband hinge constructed from more than 800 pieces of steel and aluminum. Lenovo engineers redesigned the original YOGA hinge so that it now provides the same degree of flexibility and flatness seen in metallic watch bands. Instead of two focus points, there are now six. Complementing the distinctive new hinge design, the YOGA 3 Pro is available in three eye-catching colors: Clementine Orange, Platinum Silver or Champagne Gold. To advance the concept of adaptive computing and complement the YOGA's responsive hardware features, Lenovo created the new Harmony software experience. Harmony gives YOGA owners a new way to discover applications and customize how they behave when used. For example, when reading an e-book, Harmony will automatically change the brightness and color temperature according to the environment lighting. When using presentation software, Harmony can enable motion control or touch depending on the mode, or when watching video it can optimize the audio settings. Harmony can recognize and optimize the experience with more than 50 of the most popular applications. Harmony also recommends which apps other YOGA owners find useful and provides a handy shortcut to the apps used most frequently in each mode. The YOGA 3 Pro offers users an excellent experience in any mode from the moment they open the lid. With a QHD+ 3200x1800 display, this bright and clear screen looks amazing whatever the task - editing images in Laptop mode, video chatting in Stand mode, watching movies in Tent mode or online shopping in Tablet mode. Built with durable Gorilla Glass, this screen is designed to hold up to wherever users go. While videos look stunning, the YOGA 3 Pro makes them sound just as spectacular with premium JBL(R) speakers with Waves(R) Audio, which automatically adjusts the audio in each of the four modes so that when the speakers are not facing the user, the audio still sounds crisp and clear. Equipped with an Intel(R) Core M(TM) processor, solid state drive storage up to 512 GB SSD and Intel integrated graphics, users can multitask at will, store large digital libraries and experience smooth video playback without lag. The YOGA 3 Pro keeps users up and running longer with up to nine hours of battery life and connected via high-speed 802.11 a/c WiFi. The Lenovo YOGA 3 Pro is available beginning at the end of October via Best Buy and Models start at MSRP EUR 1,599.
