Logitech In Talks To Sell Remote

Logitech International SA (SWX:LOGN) is in talks with potential buyers for its unprofitable Harmony remote control and video security businesses, said, Bracken Darrell, Chief Executive Officer of Logitech on an earnings call on April 25, 2013. He added that Logitech expects to be out of those businesses by the end of the fiscal year that started April 1, 2013 without identifying potential buyers. The company is dropping its once-strong Harmony Remote product line and exiting several other nonstrategic product categories to narrow its focus on the PC and mobility sectors, Darrell said in Logitech's prior earnings call on January 25, 2013. Video security products, speaker docks for smartphones and tablets, streaming media systems and console gaming were the other categories it planned to drop, he added. "While Logitech is searching for a buyer, it will run the Harmony line in a business-as-usual fashion, introducing new products and fully supporting our customers," Logitech said in a written statement. But the two new remotes were already designed when it decided to drop the Harmony business, Darrell said on April 17, 2013. "We certainly aren't going to starve that business as we sell it," he said. The Harmony Ultimate is "already one of our top 20" selling products, he added.
