Feld Entertainment, Inc. and Mattel, Inc. announced the five year extension of their long-standing global licensing agreement between Monster Jam(R) and Hot Wheels(R). The renewal agreement extends Mattel's exclusive, worldwide licensing rights to Monster Jam replica die-cast, plastic, feature vehicles, accessories, and playsets through 2018. The renewal also extends Mattel's title sponsorship rights to the Team Hot Wheels(R) Monster Jam truck race team, which serves as a strategic Team Hot Wheels brand extension supporting the Team Yellow marketing platform. Mattel, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $995.6 million compared to $928.4 million a year ago. Operating income was $65.8 million compared to $28.7 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $44.2 million compared to $10.2 million a year ago. Net income was $38.5 million or $0.11 per basic and diluted common share compared to $7.8 million or $0.02 per basic and diluted common share a year ago. Cash flows used for operating activities were $62 million compared to cash flows from operating activities of $171 million a year ago. The change is primarily due to higher working capital usage, partially offset by higher net income.
