These products are distributed through distribution channels comprising insurance agents and brokers affiliated with the company, securities brokerage firms, financial planners, pension plan sponsors, pension plan consultants, and banks. In addition, the company is involved in asset management, property and casualty reinsurance, and run-off reinsurance operations, including variable annuities, and accident and health. Manulife Asset Management Names Peter Warnes as Head of Portfolio Solutions Group, International

Manulife Asset Management has announced the expansion of its asset allocation investment capability with the appointment of Peter Warnes as Head of Portfolio Solutions Group (PSG), International. Based in Hong Kong, Peter will work closely with his asset allocation and international sales and relationship management colleagues to meet the increasing demand for asset allocation solutions outside of North America. In addition to his portfolio management responsibilities, Peter will set the strategic direction for continuing this encouraging growth for Manulife Asset Management's international business. He will join the company's Global Asset Allocation Committee and interface closely with peers on the global PSG team, which includes more than 20 asset allocation professionals and has more than $119 billion in assets under management. Peter will join Manulife Asset Management effective 18 August 2014. He was previously with JP Morgan Asset Management, where he worked in both the Asia and London offices developing and managing global equity and global multi-asset investment portfolios.

The Board also declared dividends on non-cumulative preferred shares, payable on or after September 19, 2014 to shareholders of record at the close of business on August 19, 2014. Manulife Financial Corporation Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2014

Manulife Financial Corporation announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. The company announced net income attributed to shareholders of CAD 943 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2014, fully diluted earnings per common share of CAD 0.49 and return on common shareholders' equity of 13.1%, compared with CAD 259 million, CAD 0.12 and 3.9%, respectively, in the same period last year. In the quarter, MFC generated core earnings of CAD 701 million, fully diluted core earnings per common share of CAD 0.36 and core return on common shareholders' equity of 9.6%, compared with CAD 609 million, CAD 0.31 and 10.0%, respectively, in same period last year. Total revenue was CAD 13,269 million and income before income taxes was CAD 1,211,000 against total revenue of negative CAD 510 million and income before income taxes of CAD 205,000 a year ago. For the six months, net income attributed to shareholders was CAD 1,761 million against CAD 799 million a year ago. Common shareholders' net income was CAD 1,691 million against CAD 735 million a year ago. Diluted earnings per was CAD 0.90 against CAD 0.40 a year ago. Core earnings were CAD 1,420 million or CAD 0.73 per diluted share against CAD 1,228 million or CAD 0.63 per diluted share a year ago. Return on common shareholders' equity was 12.5% against 6.5% a year ago. Core ROE was 10.0% against 10.3% a year ago.
