Marvell Technology Group Ltd. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended August 2, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net revenues were $961,545,000 against $807,056,000 a year ago. Operating income was $120,454,000 against $51,977,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $132,717,000 against $60,230,000 a year ago. Net income was $138,870,000 or $0.27 diluted per share against $61,826,000 or $0.12 diluted per share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $156,954,000 against $86,496,000 a year ago. Purchases of property and equipment was $15,823,000 against $18,981,000 a year ago. Non-GAAP net income was $181,484,000 or $0.34 diluted per share against $117,880,000 or $0.23 diluted per share a year ago.
For the six-month period, the company reported net revenues were $1,919,375,000 against $1,541,425,000 a year ago. Operating income was $213,441,000 against $94,858,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $227,629,000 against $106,271,000 a year ago. Net income was $238,349,000 or $0.46 diluted per share against $115,035,000 or $0.23 diluted per share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $392,091,000 against $170,351,000 a year ago. Purchases of property and equipment was $31,954,000 against $39,061,000 a year ago. Non-GAAP net income was $325,634,000 or $0.61 diluted per share against $215,981,000 or $0.42 diluted per share a year ago.
The company provided earnings guidance for the third quarter of fiscal 2015. For the period, the company expected GAAP gross margin of 49.7%, non-GAAP gross margin of 50.0%, GAAP diluted earnings per share of $0.21 and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share $0.29. EPS to be in the range of $0.27 - $0.31, below the consensus for $0.32, on revenue in the range of $960 million to $1 billion. At the midpoint of the company's projected guidance, this should translate to a non-GAAP operating margin of approximately 16%, plus or minus 100 basis points. The combination of interest and other income should net out to approximately $1 million, and the company expects tax expense to be approximately $6 million. The company anticipates R&D expenses of approximately $270 million. On the balance sheet, the company currently expect to generate $150 million in free cash flow during the quarter.
The company intends to pay its next quarterly dividend of $0.06 per share on October 2, 2014 to all shareholders of record as of September 11, 2014.

Marvell Announces Introduction of its First Native Non-Volatile Memory Express Solid-State Drive Controller, the 88SS1093

Marvell announced the introduction of its first native Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) solid-state drive (SSD) controller, the 88SS1093. The Marvell(R) 88SS1093 NVMe SSD controller delivers high-performance solid-state storage solutions with a fully Flash-optimized architecture overcoming the SAS/SATA performance limitations by optimizing hardware and software to take full advantage on NAND and addressing the needs of data centers and client systems that utilize next-generation PCIe 3.0 SSD storage. The 88SS1093 also integrates Marvell's third generation NANDEdge(TM) error-correcting, low-density parity check (LDPC) technology for higher reliability and endurance boost that was previously announced with Marvell's fifth generation SATA SSD controller, the 88SS1074. Supporting up to four lanes of PCIe 3.0, the 88SS1093 SSD controller is suitable for full 4GB/s or 2GB/s end points depending on host system customization and enables unparalleled IOPS performance using the NVMe advanced Command Handling. In order to fully utilize the high-speed PCIe connection, Marvell's innovative NVM Express design facilitates PCIe link data flows by deploying massive hardware automation without compromise. Marvell believes this high-efficient data flow management will alleviate the legacy host control bottlenecks and unleash the true Flash performance.
