It primarily serves aerospace, communications, defense and security, and industrial markets. The company's products are used in wireless and wired LAN systems, communications infrastructure systems, pacemakers and defibrillators, missile systems, military and commercial satellites and aircrafts, oil field equipment, and airport security systems. Microsemi Corporation markets its products directly, as well as through electronic component distributors and independent sales representatives. The company was formerly known as Microsemiconductor Corporation and changed its name to Microsemi Corporation in February 1983. Microsemi Corporation was founded in 1960 and is headquartered in Aliso Viejo, California.

Microsemi Corporation Announces its New ZL30250 and ZL30251 Flexible Clock Generators

Microsemi Corporation announced its new ZL30250 and ZL30251 flexible clock generators. The devices are an ultra-low jitter solution (160fs [12kHz-20MHz integration band]) in a 5x5mm package capable of replacing multiple high performance crystals and crystal oscillators, thus lowering bill of material (BOM) cost along with easing design and testing of timing solutions. The ZL30250 and ZL30251 clock generators leverage Microsemi's long history of expertise in providing clock management solutions and now provide designers with a solution for applications in wired and wireless communication equipment, enterprise switch and routers, enterprise networks, storage area networks, along with industrial automation. About the ZL30250 and ZL30251: Microsemi's new platform on the ZL30250 and ZL30251 is very flexible with highly configurable outputs and offers automatic self-configuration at power-up. This supports up to four different configurations easily selected using two device pins. This flexibility includes: any-to-any frequency conversion with 0 ppm error (inputs: 10MHz-1.25GHz, outputs: 1Hz-1GHz); three universal clock inputs connect to any signal format at any voltage; up to three differential outputs, up to six CMOS outputs; configurable output signal format and voltage for direct interface without additional components; the ZL30250 and ZL30251 offer numerically controlled oscillator (NCO) mode in which output frequencies can be controlled with very high resolution by system software. This capability allows the devices to replace solutions using large, expensive, fixed-frequency voltage-controlled oscillators (VCXOs) with a small, low-cost, any-frequency solution. The ZL30250 and ZL30251 can generate PCI Express (PCIe) clock signals with or without spread-spectrum modulation required in server, storage and communication equipment allowing system designers to comply with EMI requirements. As with all Microsemi clock generation and timing ICs, the ZL30250 and ZL30251 can be combined with Microsemi's high-performance fan-out buffers to provide complete timing solutions for complex systems. In addition, the ZL30250 and ZL30251 can accept clock signals from other Microsemi timing ICs, perform frequency conversion and output additional clock signals needed for the system design. These devices are flexible building-blocks that system designers can reuse over and over in various parts of a system design and across multiple designs.

Microsemi Corporation announced the availability of the company's new SmartFusion(R)2 SoC FPGA Evaluation Kit. The new SmartFusion2 Evaluation Kit is an easy-to-use, feature-rich, affordable platform designed to enable designers to quickly and easily accelerate evaluation or prototype their application. Utilizing Microsemi's mainstream SmartFusion2 FPGAs enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to leverage the device's lowest power consumption in its class, high reliability capabilities and security technology to build highly differentiated products that help them gain a significant time to market advantage. SmartFusion2 Evaluation Kit allows for simplified development of transceiver I/O-based FPGA designs necessary in current PCI Express (PCIe) and Gigabit Ethernet-based systems. For faster evaluation and prototyping, Microsemi's evaluation board is small form-factor PCIe compliant, which can be used on any desktop PC or laptop with a PCIe slot. The kit offers a comprehensive set of features that include PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet, full-duplex SERDES SMA pairs, DDR memory, SPI Flash, USB On-The-Go and several expansion interfaces that create the needed flexibility for a wide range of application development. With purchase of the evaluation kit, developers also have access to Microsemi's full array of development resources such as reference designs and the ability to launch example application demonstrations.
