MTNL To Sell Stake In UTL

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (BSE:500108) (MTNL) is looking to sell its 26.7% stake in United Telecom Ltd (UTL) Nepal. In July, MTNL appointed an advisor to examine the possibilities of increasing its interest in the Nepalese firm. Telecommunications Consultants India Limited and Tata Communications Limited (BSE:500483) hold 26.66% each, Nepal Ventures Private Limited has 20% and Nepal Ventures is emerging as buyer for the stake to be sold by MTNL, according to reports from local press.

Prime Minister Discards BSNL-MTNL Merger

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India has discarded plans to merge ailing state-run telecoms operators Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (BSE:500108).

Bharat Sanchar To Reportedly List

The Telecom Department is planning listing of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. after a merger with Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (BSE:500108), Economic Times reported citing top government officials. KPMG, which is advising on the deal, did not reply to queries on the issue.
